Well the DK family tree seems to be a little confusing once you start looking at the other characters. The movie clarified a few things but then left pretty much all the other characters up for speculation. I suppose Nintendo needs to release a DK RPG (Super Mario RPG SNES style) to clarify a few family ties.

First part true. They live a lot longer in captivity (since human medicine works on them most of the time), hitting 50 or even more. DK has always seemed more like an Orangutang though. (Diddy is a monkey since he has a tail, and not a gorilla either.)

Yes, in captivity they can reach even 50 years but I think Donkey is a jungle Gorilla, Diddy is a chimp which is weird since it is Donkey's nephew
