Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft makes more cash from Android than Windows Phone 7

So MS is finally giving up making a working phone OS and admits its true talent is to be a patent troll?

well it doesnt help that WP7 arent very good phones, at least according to cnet.com

i have never used one so i can only go by a very very reliable source in cnet.com.

but that is quite funny. i wonder if

WP7 will go the way of the kin, i just dont see there being enough room in the market for a 4th or 5th major smartphone OS

Well, user satisfaction says something different than CNET.

Somebody has faith.

Also, My HTC 7 Pro is great.

Quite the funny statistic, but with Nokia dropping Symbian for WP7, the Windows Phone 7 market penetration is going to SKYROCKET, and I hope I see a good WP7 phone on Boost Mobile soon so I can have mobile Xbox LIVE access.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

I'm sure Windows Mobile 7 is a good OS and you have quality manufacturers like HTC making phones for the platform. Windows Mobile 7 is never going to take off though. Android is the darling of the "I am a PC" crowd. It's open-source but unlike Linux it's accessible and "cool enough" to not just be for nerds and has strong app support. Maybe things would have been different if Microsoft beat Google to the punch or released WM7 around the same time as Android.

Also Android OS is already in first place as far as smartphone OS market share goes. http://www.smartcompany.com.au/information-technology/20110601-android-market-share-drops-in-us.html and apparently Android market share is starting to peak out (doesn't sound like good news for a platform that is expected to keep growing. Maybe it's because of the new White iPhone. lol). It was actually at 37% in the US but it's now down to 36% while iPhone is at only 26% and Blackberry at 23%. Windows Mobile 7 is only at 1% (but pre-7 Windows Mobile is at 9%). If you count iOS smart devices altogether vs. Android smart devices, iOS smart devices shipped like more than double. But shipments are not the same as active users (many people replaced their old iOS devices) so it's unclear what the smart device market share is like.

Actually specs on the phones are pretty solid and are all standard accross the board. Most of them came out 6 months before the playstation phone, and they are equal to or greater than Ps phone in terms of raw specs.

I guess I don't know what you mean by "weak"...

WP7 marketshare will start increasing next year when Nokia starts shipping smart phones using WP7..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

i'd love if they release WP7 games on the android market, or just give a sign that the Windows Phone OS is staying by making new phones, and not going to disappear fast like the Zune did.

And the investment with Nokia does not give you that assurance? Not sure what you want when it comes to assurances.
