Forums - Sony - PS3 "the confessions of a blue-ray player"

Why you gotta be a playa hater?

I saw a copy of Dragon's Lair on HD-DVD. Confused the hell out of me to see a classic adventure game on sale as an HD-DVD, but it's the only thing I've seen so far that made me wish I had an HD format player.

Or I could just find an old copy of it in one of the many formats it was originally released in and enjoy that just as much, I guess.

I baught my wii just to play mp3s on my tv...

Keep it real guys, dont hate mario, hate the player

Currently playing:
Geometry Wars galaxies, Animal Crossing wild world, Pangya swing with style, SSX Blur

PS3 owners buy it as a game machine with the added bounus of getting to put our HDtvs into extra use with blu ray. If you have an HDtv and have some hd cable or satillite channels you will quickly find out not all channels send out HD signals. limiting your hdtv to certian channels in hd quality.

I personally bought an HDtv 1 year before I got a ps3. and in that first year I was limited to 8 HD channels using an antennna. so basically I had a very small percentage of using HD signals say 10% of the time . once I got a PS3 I have access to HD gaming and Blu-ray movies. now 80% of the time my HDtv gets its intended use of HD signals. gaming being 50%, blu ray being 20%, and these HD channels over antenna 10% (mostly football). now if i can just get my hands on an HD cable box for my room then Ill be up to 95% HD signals.

My point is some people just want to get more use out of thier expensive Hdtv's and the PS3 is the best way to do it IMO.

I don't have a HDTV so i've never bought or played a blu-ray movie on my ps3. If or when I do get a HDTV i'll pick some up. Maybe Fifth Element, Independence day and those dbz broly movies.

Blu-ray = fail

HD-DVD = fail

DVD = epic win

That's final. Format wars are stupider than console wars. Don't buy any HD garbage.

your right Holo-Discs for the WIN!!!!! Could you loan my 15 million dollars?

to me my ps3 has been used aroun 80% of the time as a blu-ray player and the rest as a game system.

My PS3 played 5 or 6 blu-ray movies. I own over 20 PS3 games. Having blu-ray is a nice addition to the console but I doubt people are buying it just for the blu-ray.

Also looking at PS3 game sales, they are pretty good for the number of consoles out there. Not sure why people insist on saying PS3 games do not sell well. I guess there are still lots of Sony haters that consistently close their eyes to the facts.

PS3 is a kick ass console. The best out there. And I'm glad it also has blu-ray playing capabilities.

Of the five people I know with ps3s:

  • I bought it for gaming, but use it for Blu-Ray on the side
  • My cousin bought it for gaming, and watches Blu-Ray on the side
  • My brother-in-law's dad bought it for gaming, and watches Blu-Ray on the side.
  • Another cousin bought it for Blu-Ray, but does some gaming on the side.
  • My uncle (the father of the two cousins) bought one strictly for Blu-Ray. Why he got an 80gb with MotorStorm, I don't know, as he hasn't even opened it yet. I've been tempted to ask if I could have it, lol.

Edit: Oh yeah, my friend's cousin also has a ps3 hooked up to an HDTV. He bought it purely for gaming, and doesn't buy Blu-Ray because he downloads all his movies.
