Just wondering if many people in the community know of/follow/play Lacrosse? I'm a massive fan of it, I mainly follow MLL, but I keep my eyes on what's going on in NCAA... don't really have much interest in the indoor leagues. Currently, I play with my University men's lacrosse team, though I'm going to be getting much more serious with the sport next year, and try to play for the county team.

Personally, I think that it's the king of sports: it's high scoring and aggressive like football, but requires the skill, strategy and athletism  of soccer or basketball. It's a shame that so few people have even heard of it... though, I do think this is changing. I've heard that it's the fastest growing university sport in the UK, and USLacrosse like to claim that it's the fastest growing sport in the whole of the USA. There are also more and more teams entering the World Lacrosse Championships each tournament (every 4 years, next in 2014).

Basically, anybody else out there a fan?

Now for the obligatory videos: (next post... why isn't there a video embed button on the topic creation page?)

ive been to some lacrosse games before...it was more interesting than some of those other boring sports (eg.hockey, football)  or some of those really boring sports (eg. soccer) or some of those really stupid sports (eg. boxing, mma)

Haha, so you liked the sport... but only a little bit more than most other sports... which you really don't like.

Well, that's something, at least.

Nice! Which variant did you play? I'm assuming men's field?

Casual fan here. I was really into it when we had the Ravens, but after that my interest sort of went away. I catch the odd Toronto Rock game they air on TSN, but aside from that zilch. I'll probably come back when the Ravens are revived.

Indoor lacrosse fan? Indoor lacrosse doesn't really exist in the UK, as we don't have the stadiums for it (ice hockey was never a popular sport, here).

Yes, indoor. Lacrosse on a Football field looks odd to me.

Haha, it's not supposed to be played on a football field... it just always is, as they're similar sizes, and Lacrosse isn't popular enough to warrant its own stadiums. I don't really understand why they use football fields, though. Soccer fields would be more appropriate: less markings on the pitch, and the smaller stadiums would better suit the lower audience turnouts (MLL games attract around 5,000 ... which isn't bad, but they easily get lost in the football stadiums where they can hold tens of thousands of people).

Indoor lacrosse does seem to be more popular on the whole, though - higher scoring, and greater aggression attracts the fans more than the slower field games (though MLL has had some modifications to fix this - 2 point line, shot clock).
