Haha, it's not supposed to be played on a football field... it just always is, as they're similar sizes, and Lacrosse isn't popular enough to warrant its own stadiums. I don't really understand why they use football fields, though. Soccer fields would be more appropriate: less markings on the pitch, and the smaller stadiums would better suit the lower audience turnouts (MLL games attract around 5,000 ... which isn't bad, but they easily get lost in the football stadiums where they can hold tens of thousands of people).
Indoor lacrosse does seem to be more popular on the whole, though - higher scoring, and greater aggression attracts the fans more than the slower field games (though MLL has had some modifications to fix this - 2 point line, shot clock).
