Considering all the PS3/360 ports to Cafe, I highly doubt it is "significantly" more powerful. Chief.

Thanks Mr. Fanboy, but I was looking for a serious and educated reply from someone.

This isn't school kiddo, this is a gaming forum. You're going to get gaming related opinions/responses from people. I am fully entitled to post anything I like as long as it doesn't violate the ToS. If you aren't interested in my response, don't respond to it. If someone doesn't share the same opinion as you, they must be in the wrong? Anyways, 6 years late I would hope it is a little more powerful than the PS3/360. Both of which are "significantly" lagging behind in terms of "tech" these days, as far as the advancement of PC gaming tech.

Since my response doesn't mesh with exactly what you were looking for, and since you are clearly more educated (lol) than anyone else here, I can expect a well thought out, insightful response. Pointing to all the flaws in my post, since it clearly doesn't jive well with your criteria of what a 'good' post should be.

I'll sit back and wait for the inevitable response. I'm sure you can't help yourself.

From what I recall, Project Cafe is "significantly" more powerful than the ps3 and 360. I don't know why he keeps referring to it being equal to those current consoles in terms of power.

what are the specs for cafe?

significant doesnt really mean anything

I don't have the specs, obviously. From a quick google search I found what people think are leaked specs, to be taken with a grain of salt. Here: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2011/04/25/project-cafe-system-specs-leaked/1

Not being much of a tech guy, I wouldn't know how to compare that to the 360 and ps3. If you do a google search, you can see a few results where Developers are claiming the Project Cafe to be "significantly more powerful than the ps3/360." What that translates into numbers, who knows, but we'll find out soon enough.

from the link...

"The sources also said that rumours about the console's graphical power were true, with Project Cafe set to outperform even the PlayStation 3's NVIDIA 7800GTX-based processor."

nvidia's 7800 is old and outdated now, ps3 never really had a fantastic gpu, saying that something will outpreform that isnt saying much, and likewise with the x360 comparison:

"The CPU for Project Cafe is said to be a custom-made triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset which is fundamentally similar to the Xbox 360's CPU, albeit with faster clock speeds."

while x360s processor did have some new components (like the PPE made for cell processing), isnt saying much either, a faster clock speed is nice, but x360 is already running at 3.2 ghz, so i doubt it will be much better

the source should have compared cafes processor to ps3s processor as thats where the ps3s power comes from, likewise they should have compared the gpu to x360s as it has a more powerful gpu than the ps3, not the other way around.

"We could make games look an order of magnitude more impressive than titles like L.A. Noire or its ilk - but it would cost a vast amount of money. and I suspect that we've hit diminishing returns on that kind of expenditure already."

So how can games like The Witcher 2 make money, selling for 20 dollars less and coming with lots of extras in the box? Plus it has to be designed to run on a vast range of hardware instead of just 1 or 2 systems.

"However, the upgrade cycle appears to have slowed considerably - with games that actually demand cutting-edge systems being few and far between, and core gamers far more likely to continue happily playing on two, three or even four year old PCs than they were in the past."

Well ofcourse you don't want to upgrade your graphics card just for 1 game, just as most people don't buy a console just for 1 game. I wouldn't say I'm happy the witcher 2 runs at 20-30 fps, but I'm not going to spend another 200 dollars for a graphics card and new power supply for 1 game.

I'll happily buy another 500-600 dollar console though, knowing it will have a steady supply of games that really use that hardware for 5 years.

I rather don't like the tone of this article, or what it implies

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

it only seems reasonable that graphics progress will slow.  Until software development and asset creation becomes more efficient, it will be difficult to make profitable games for the next-generation.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

On the topic of processing power, Project Cafe is rumoured to have a GPU based on the R700 which was the family of chipsets that produced the Radeon HD 4XXX series of graphics cards. It will most likely be highly modified and it is reasonable to expect it to have 4 to 8 times the real world processing power of either the XBox 360 or PS3's GPUs.

While this performance increase could easily disappear if Nintendo focuses on pushing 1080p games at 30fps, with Nintendo's history I anticipate that Nintendo will focus on 720p; and a GPU like the one in the Radeon HD 4850/4870 is close to pushing the limits of what we can render using the raster-scanline algorithm at 720p.

don't really know what nintendo is trying to do with the cafe. the reason xbox 360 and ps3 are so successful is because of not only graphics but also online. IMO if nintendo really does want to compete when the ps4 and 720 come out they really have to do something outside the box because they will surely lose in the grpahics depatment. screen on controller is innovative but nothing compared to motion controlls witht the wii

I dont know how the console war is over? I dont have an interest at all in project cafe .....unless Nintendo has a huge launch line-up of games, other than Mario, like actual 3rd party games than maybe I'd be interested but until than Im fine with my ps3 & 360

yea, im in the same boat, i really dont care what hardware nintendo can offer, im fine with the current hardware, i would actually perfer not having to buy new hardware to play games. what they need to get me to buy their new console are a lot of great games that i cant get on the consoles that i already have

We will see what happens in two weeks 1/2. I Think both consoles will hold off to atleast 2013
