Forums - Gaming - Besides multiplayer, what can videogames have to increase bang for buck?

Multiplayer is the reason why games are loosing the bang for for buck.

instead of creating a game that rewards you for replaying or mastering a game..just throw in multiplayer

seriously after you beat uncharted and halo and crisis once who plays them again???

but i can play something like sonic the hedgehod over and over gain just trying to find the best way to master each level

basically mutilplyer is a "lazy" way to add value

People are beating's Halo Reach campaign a lot;.

Do you know that person?  They have played the game like over 60 days...that is fricking pathetic and sad.

Edit, more like 85 days worth actually.  All in like 8 months time, which means they are putting in 10 days worth per month?  There must be multiple people on that account.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

They can be good, in other words they can make you want to replay the game even if there's no new content to experience. If there are different ways to progress through the game instead of mostly scripted events, then that's already a good start.

If you are somewhat clever, then you already know that the things mentioned above are the same ones that apply to multiplayer. Those are the reasons why people play and keep playing multiplayer after all. The main reason why singleplayer games fail is that they are too much focused on telling a story which in return means that the game being a game receives less attention. So once the story is done, there is no reason to go back.

Right here folks is the answer.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Reasons I hang onto certain games:

1. Single player campaign is so good I might want to replay it again later (Portal 2, Uncharted).

2. Extra content that might be interesting (Dragon age origins, LBP)

3. Splitscreen/same screen well implemented local multiplayer. (LBP, Portal 2, Motorstorm)

4. My kids might want to play it when old enough (LBP, Lego games, Ratchet and Clank)

Online multiplayer doesn't really do it for me. I only play GT5 online and I would have kept that game anyway. I'm actually more inclined to trade in online multiplayer games early, better value and usually more forgettable single player campaign.

Best thing developers can do is make a great single player campaign that's fun to replay. Don't make it drag on, but give it the total package, great graphics, music, and gameplay. Or great local multiplayer and I'll never trade it in.

Videogames that can go to the bathroom for us so we won't be inconveniently interupted when we have to relieve ourselves. Plus one for inovation.

1) Make the game long

2) Make the game fun to replay, either by having incredible gameplay, or by being non linear and give lots of customisation.

3) Make the game cheap

Yeah a guy whose parents have a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. He never has to work in his life thx to his parents..And what you do if you a lot of free time?  Play Halo Reach I guess..

The thing is that around a half million players atleast spend more than 50 hours in Singleplayer...
