Forums - Sony - Is Hotmail/Live not receiving the PSN password recovery e-mail?

I've already waited for over 24 hours for my main account and also checked if I could receive the e-mail with my european account like 5 hours ago and I still haven't received the e-mail on any of them. The only account I didn't have any problems with was the US one because it allowed me to change the password on the PS3 without any need to wait for an e-mail.

People in neogaf are saying they get the e-mail almost instantly with gmail but many of them who tried with hotmail still haven't received it.

This sucks... I really want to sync my trophies T_T

Who else has problems receiving the e-mail? are you using hotmail/live or something else?

I hope I don't lose my account or I'll have to create a new one and earn all my trophies again >_<. That will take a very long time to do :S

Why do you need the email?  Is this working differently in different places.

My PS3 just took me to a screen to change my password... I havent had an email but I was able to change my password.

Is it that easy? I was waiting for an e-mail as well. Did you happen to receive an e-mail saying that your password has succesfully been changed?

This email confirms that your PlayStation(R)Network password account has been changed successfully.

If you did not change your password...
This email has been sent to you because the password for the relevant PlayStation(R)Network account has been changed.
If you did not change your password, please contact Customer Support at the following address:

I just got that and I haven't even been on PSN yet.  The reason why I want to do all this now is because I need to get my account sorted out before the 20th if I want to be a part of the 'Welcome back' program.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

The fake US account I have is activated on my PS3 because I used it to download some content from the store. That one took me to the screen you say in which you just type the new password and type it a second time.

My real account from Argentina was not activated on my PS3 because there is no PS Store and that means it's impossible for me to download any content from the store with it. So the process is different, instead of taking you to the screen with the 2 password fields, it tells you an e-mail has been sent to your e-mail adress with a link to change your password.

Sony says it can take up to 24 hours to receive the e-mail, but I still haven't received it and I have no way to change my password other than clicking on the link they're supposed to send me in that e-mail.

I also tried to get the e-mail with the "forgot your password?" option in both the PS3 and us.playstation.com, but it tells me it was sent and I never receive it :S I even checked the junk folder and there's nothing from them there.

Some users in neogaf say they receive the e-mail instantly with gmail but not with hotmail/live and they can't change the passwords of those accounts registered with a hotmail e-mail address.

This sucks because I have all my trophies in my real account :( I only use the US one for downloading demos and videos from the store :S

If it's anything like the notification that they were hacked emails I would say just be patient.  It took me about 5 days to get that email on my EU account and about 3 days on my NA account. I only just got the email about my PSN password change a few hours ago.

As a general rule of thumb it's best not to go to ridiculous and stupid conspiracy theories because, well, they're ridiculous and stupid.

Like I say, Ive managed to change the password but I cant do anything else. I am trying to get into billing to delete all of my CC records... but I just get a series of weird and different error codes each time.

I guess its creaking under all of the activity, or requests for activity.

Yeah, I was just explaining why I needed the e-mail and why it's working differently for me. I thought that's what you asked :P

LOL, that's quite a long time... I guess I'm going to change my e-mail address for PSN once I get the e-mail so this doesn't happen again.

Couple of clarifications that might help out:

1 - emails are dependant on your ISP and load.  Sony have already noted that it will take a while for all to go out/be recieved.  Some ISPs are throatling down bandwiduth due to volume.  In short, you're probably going to have to wait a bit

2 - depending on whether your PSN account is assigned to your PS3 and your account setup there are two procedures.  If you're lucky you just change your password directly through PS3.  This is more or less immediate so far as I can see.  This was the option I was given.  The alternative is to wait for an email and change via PC.  Sadly you are in the latter camp.

3 - the store and all functions to do with it - CC details, etc. - are still down.  As is any content linked to store so far as I can tell - so trying to access this will result in an error

4 - trophy sync and online play seem to be the only bits of PSN up at the moment, plus friend lists and messaging.

This will probably be out of date by the time I finish typing...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

cheers... I'll stop trying then

Yeah, first thinig I did was to try and get to CC details.  None of that seems to be up.  If I spot otherwise I'll send you a message.

Are you able to access other services on your PS3 like billing in account management?

No idea, I just did it through the website.  I seemed to be able to change everything there just fine.

Thanks for the info... I guess the only thing I've got left is to keep waiting. The bad thing is that there is a limit of 3 hours since the e-mail was sent to click on the link in it... if they send the e-mail while I'm sleeping or something I won't be able to click on it and will have to wait for a new one >_<

Funnily enough my hotmail account stopped recieving any kind of email the day PSN went down. Don't know if it was just a coincidence though.
