Forums - Sony - PS3 Fan going balistic...its make or break time...

well, that didnt do squat! I did everything as well as I could, I removed all of the old thermal compound (well as much as i could) and applied the new compound as eavenly as i could. returned all the parts back to gether but nothing...

i'm not sure if i'm imbeding the video right, but if you can watch it, hear that humming sound that sounds like wind? thats the fan! now, around the 30 second mark or somthing, i quit raquet sports. notice how the fan speed and noise goes down but still a bit loud. the fan sound/speed at the end of the video is the current normal fan speed of my ps3. It used to be really quite, but due to this damn heat its now that loud. and when running raquiet sports its horrible LOL!

but since its not shutting down, either

a. its not hot enough for the ps3 to be dammaged

b. the heat sensor is busted

c. its all in my head lololol!

so, application of new thermal coumpound didnt do anything. since ive already opened it and the fan is crazy loud, not to mention i updated to firmware 3.6 as soon as it was out to prevent myself from going back to the "ps1 and ps2 old ways...", its re-sale value here is next to shit due to people here looking for PS3s that are still in firmware 3.55.... i might as well try modding the case, maybe cutting the bottom oppen then replacing the heat sink with something else, maybe something thats good for vga cards, or maybe liquid coolling, then adding a large fan under it to double the wind flow and adding permanent legs to elevate it high enough to add the additional fan...

Nah! i'll just turn the volume on my monitor up so i wont hear the fan! haha

you do know that the "ps3 fan trick" overheats the motherboard, right?

Trade it in to Gamestop you'll get a $200 credit for a new PS3.

That would be cool. But I live in the Philippines where Sony only released the PS3 just to say that they did. Support here sucks ass!

If i were to sell it, my sports champions move boundle will bring me more money than my PS3. ah well, since its not shutting down or anything, I think I'll just avoid Raquets Sports like the plauge since its the only game that causes the fan to go ballistic and everything else just  makes it sound like a small vaccum.

mine did the same thing... it was covered by warranty so i send it to sony for a new one and this new one is very quiet.
i think you could mod it to have a fan controller and use a thermal sensor to help you to set the best noise/performance ratio... you can buy a PC fan controller with dual thermal information for cheap... try that and try to keep the heat below 90º Celsius...

like this one well this is the best 4 your needs and is not that expensive!
