Forums - Microsoft - Vgchartz ranking game--Alan Wake

Update: I have decided to give 800 MS points or a $10 PSN card (sorry Wii only users, I don't know how to get you guys anything) every 3 months to the person who I feel has consistantly had the best reviews in my threads. Hopefully this will inspire even more great reviews in these threads. Your reviews start to count on April 29th 2011 so the person with the best reviews will win at the end of July.

All you have to do is put what score you think the game below deserves, and write a brief explanation as to why it deserves that score.

Voting is open for 3 days, after the 3 day period I will count up all the scores and get the average of the game.  I will be putting up a new thread with a new game every 3 days

1. You had to have played at least enough of the game to form an honest opinion about it

(playing it for 5 minutes is NOT enough time, nor is watching a friend play the game)

2. Scores have to be on a 10 point scale with 7 being average.

3. If you score a game 5 or under, you have to go into great detail as to why you gave it such a low score.

4. A game must have at least 15 people that gave it a score to be counted.

5. If you score a game more than once none of your scores will count

6. Users with less than 50 posts cannot score a game.

Easily one of my favorite games this gen so far but not perfect.

Pro's

-  Fantastic atmosphere, In my opinion the very best this generation.  No other game has been able to really deliver in the intense way Alan Wake does with its sense of foreboding, darkness, and beautiful vistas.

-  Awesome voice work for the most part and beautiful dialouge.  Characters are very deep and complex, not just surface value characters.

-  Amazing storytelling and pacing with the usage of each chapter acting as an episode in a tv series.  Also the use of the manuscript pages to tell the story and build up suspense is one of the most brilliant I've ever seen a game.

-  Easily some of the best graphics on the 360 and IMO in top 10 this entire generation on any console.

-  The best story this gen.  Fantastic, deep, complex, full of twists turns, and darkness.  Just plain awesome.

-  Great soundtrack that really helps make the atmospere of the game that much better

-  Has seen excellent DLC support with two chapters that don't feel like cheap add on's but real additions to the story

Con's

- Enemy variety is pretty weak.  For the most part your facing the same shadow possessed people most of the game but possessed objects can still be scary as hell.

-  Facial animations are hit and miss, sometimes excellent, other times a little stiff.

-  A little more variety could have been added, for the most part the game is pretty linier even though the environments are VERY expansive.  The game could use a few more things to break up things from a gameplay perspective.

Overall its one of my favorite game of all time.  Its not perfect but no game is.  I recommend it to ANY gamer not just fans of horror and psychological thrillers.

In conclusion a fantastic  9.7

I liked the game. I haven't played all the DLC yet but I will someday because what I have plyed so far was fun. I would give it a 9. Had good visuals, I felt the game was the right length, and it left me anting to play the dlc.

Alan Wake...where to start...the game both starts in a way that makes you love it and hate it at the same time. Loving it for that beautiful sweeping shot of Bright Falls, hating it for the awful face animations...dear god they're bad, but soon you realise that they're the worst thing about the game and once you learn to live with them you realise you're playing one of the best games of the generation.

Graphics: Despite the low resolution, Alan Wake is a very attractive looking game with amazing lighting effects; if the sequel is going to be 720p then I can see it being one of the best looking games out there

Music: Incredible, the songs that play at the end of each episode are uniformly excellent no exceptions

Sound and Writing: Voice acting is great and the writing is pretty solid too, the story has a fair few twists and turns and is addictive you really can't stop playing once you start it's just great

Gameplay: A slight lack of enemy variety and not much variety to the gameplay, however the gunplay itself is solid and using light to fight enemies is pretty great too, and flashbangs are awesome!

DLC: Some of the best DLC of any game ever, Remedy really raised the bar here anything that was great in the game is amazing here. If you haven't played the DLC  stop reading this and do it now!

Other: The atmosphere of the game is incredible, so creepy, loved it.

Overall, I loved this game, yes it has its faults but it not only raises beyond them it pretty much surpasses most games

9.2 : Bring on the sequel!

Damned I can't see how this game can have a 9 score;..But then again that is yours opinion =p;

I give it an 8.4

- Entertaing story that sucks you in the game also thx to the excellent music and atmospher.

- Sadly to short, for being short it also gets repetive fast, DLC was great especially the Writer (turning wheel was an awesome moment)...

I'm waiting for my pc release

Score: 1.5

I gave the .5 because it's looks interesting.

Its strengths are its story that keeps you on your toes until the end and its atmosphere, helped by the radios and TV shows that you find along the way. The radio and TV shows really make Bright Falls seems as if its a community full of real people. Of course, there's also a lot of Twin Peaks references and this plot, written by the great Sam Lake, would certainly make the writers of LOST proud. The references don't even stop though, as if you are paying close attention, Remedy even references its own previous works. The TV show you watch in the beginning of chapter 6 features Sam Lake in a cameo appearance next to Alan Wake who's on a late night talkshow, in which he gives "the face" a reference to Max Payne, which he also wrote. Easter Eggs like this are all over the place and I'll put a link here for anyone who wants to have a look at examples of them.

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of this game, considering its unique TV style approach, great story (which I think is the best this gen) and atmosphere, and loads of Easter Eggs for you to uncover.

9.5/10

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

My score is 9.

The atmosphere of the game is suspenseful, the story is very interesting, and it has excellent graphics. However, enemy variety is mediocre, and the gameplay gets a bit repetitive. Alan Wake is a great game nonetheless.

My favourite 360 exclusive, just bought it 2 months ago.

The atmosphere is simply amazing and the story is interesting and engaging. Overall the graphics are very good, but the mediocre character models, the low resolution and some bad textures (at daytime) hurt it a bit. Gameplay is solid, but it lacks variety sometimes.

Score: 9.4
