This could've happened with anyone including Microsoft or Nintendo, but it didn't. SImple as that. Shit happens and I am in the same position that you are. What keeps Sony ahead of the pack is its games, not exactly its online. It's online is getting really high up there though. Simply put, there still is no reason to go crazy. They told everyone to get a free credit check to seee if their accounts had been breached. I don't know if you got the email or not. Anyway, mine wasn't messed with so I suggest you do the same, change your password and move on.

The thing is, it DIDN'T happen to Microsoft or Nintendo (and I really doubt it would happen to Microsoft, ever). It happened to Sony. I don't give a shit what games they make for the system, that's irrevelant, as is the quality of their online service for playing games.

I don't look at a company and say "well, I LIKE this company so they get a pass for fucking me over". I call out companies who screw up because I have no brand loyalty to any company. I buy products, not logos.

It's been three weeks. There is still plenty of time for the hackers to sell off that information to identity theives. Don't get too excited just yet.

Please...the 360 could've been cracked and raped beyond reason. It was hacked a long time ago and if Microsoft would've actually had a linux capable system (and taken away those rights for those who care) they would've probably been in the same position and worse. Also, Microsoft definitely wouldn't have given you as much. Identity theft is a serious issue, but investigations are still in the works. Keep posted on those things instead of scaring yourself into oblivion. Have you done a credit check?

Yep, did a check yesterday.

And what makes you so sure that MIcrosoft would have fared WORSE than Sony? Their servers haven't been hacked, they haven't lost customer data. Your true colors are showing through. You just want to play the role of Sony apologist, whereas I don't care what name is on the box. If the company screws up, I'm going to complain about it.

Ask yourself what a person or group of hackers has to benefit from hacking the harder console to crack.  Seriously. A Microsoft issue would've been far worse.

MICROSOFT HASN'T HAD AN ISSUE.

It's like saying that if Titanic's sister ship, the Olympia, was travelling faster and hit a bigger iceberg, it would have sunk faster. Who gives a damn? It didn't hit anything. What does Microsoft have to do with this anyway? I brought them up to say that if they were hacked, I'd be blasting them for it, too. Beyond that, there is no reason to talk about the company in this thread. Jesus.

You're dancing around the issue just to rant. Sony got hacked because of many issues including system capabilities scrapped like other OS and hackers fighting back for those rights. Their retaliation at the hackers is also another reason. If your info has been used..all I have to say to you is sue them. Do not trust ANY company from this day forward with your info. This could've happened with anyone, PERIOD.

See, rocketpig. That's what I meant. GamrConnect is turning into a Sony forum. No criticism allowed.

It took me 10 secs to update my password. I dont know why it must be hard for some people...

It's not that it was hard for anyone, it's simply that it wasn't sending.

Quite a few people had to reset via email. Unavoidable. However, of those people, there was a subset whose email simply wasn't being sent. Mine took just under two days to receive.

Absolutely nothing to do with competency nor ability on the consumer end. Have you not read the thread?

@ okr: It is ridiculous, isn't it? I mean, Hell, like many others posting here, I greatly prefer the experiences offered on my PS3 than those with my other systems (excluding PC), but this is just too damn absurd.

So, I did a system update and find out that, lo and behold, a password update is required. No surprise there. I get a notification email, and...

Sony's Playstation site is down. I've been trying for over 20 minutes and it just times out so I cannot change my PW.

Fuck you, Sony. Seriously. Try to do SOMETHING right here, will you?

My PSN is up. Be patient. You sound like a child. It wasn't even Sonys fault and look how much they are giving up to get back in the gamers good graces. When the PSN store gets back up I cannot wait to see your face. Seriously, they are giving up way more than we deserve (especially those who do not pay for anything).

Sony's face-saving givaways are great. They stepped it up with those offerings. Kudos to them.

But this IS Sony's fault and whether I pay for PSN or not is irrelevant. It's an expected service and they lost my personal information.

And for that, they can still go fuck themselves. That's not something I'm ready to forgive right away. I'm in the market to buy a house and the last thing I need to deal with is an identity theft situation because Sony gave me a false sense of security and I foolishly let them store my personal information.

in the market to buy a house and the last thing you need is your identity stolen... do you have identity protection insurance already? no? well now you dont have to, sony is buying you insurance for your identity. oh you had it alraeady? great you have 100$ to put towards your mortgage every month now because sony is taking that bill off your hands

sony has done a great job reimbursing people for whatever they lost.

I hope this community raises again to an enjoyable level when 2.0 is launched (or was it 3.0?).

At the moment it looks as if gamrConnect is slowly but steadily turning into a Sony-only forum.

Once the Wii2 comes out im sure the nintendo forum will be lively again. 360 forums were doomed from the start

Only if it repeats the unexpected success of the Wii.

The 3DS has been a non-runaway hit and already the Nintendo forum is pretty much dead silent on the issue. Some of the formerly Nintendo faithful have gone so far as to nitpick the platform, undoubtedly influenced by the fact that it hasn't been "printing money" as they like to say.

If they were being flipped for $500 on Ebay and people were stalking shipment trucks to snap up tight inventory on a consistently out of stock item, you can bet they'd be singing a different song.

If the Cafe meets with a similar reception, expect throngs of the Nintendo faithful to turn on that platform as well, become like bitter former Sega fans after the demise of the Dreamcast and deliberately continue to game exclusively on their Wii and DS.

Not the best case scenario by any means as Nintendo is important to the console industry and gaming industry overall, but at least that would save us all the insufferable smugness of the 7th Gen Nintendo fan.

Can you really call them the Nintendo faithfull if they are turning on nintendo products?   I mean, even when the PS3 was at it's worst trending below the dreamcast levels there were plenty of people saying "Wait for ...."

The line will become "the Wii/DS was the greatest console ever" if that ever happened.

So still Nintendo fans, but without having to convince everyone that a platform that isn't enjoying the same level of near universal success is the greatest thing since...  the Wii?

Just take a look at the 3DS; most Nintendo fans did not leap to buy one without question or a library of games, but will still insist that the DS is the best handheld platform.

I would suggest that instead of being fans of nintendo they actually just believed Wii/DS were the greatest videogame systems ever.

I like the incredibly stupid "If it happened to microsoft it would of been worse" argeument.

Since there is absolutely zero to substantiate it.

Not sure if it's better or worse then the "It took me 10 seconds" type comments... as if it's in anyway relevent.

I'm dancing around the issue? I'm talking about Sony's servers getting hacked and you're talking about a hypothetical situation with Microsoft that really has nothing to do with the conversation.

Sony has stepped up and done a lot for the customer. I've said that several times.

It still doesn't erase the fact that it happened, though. Just as I complimented MS in 2007 for aggressively putting in place the RRoD warranty program, I still didn't forget that they made a shitty console that broke far too often and that's why they offered the program in the first place.
