For sure they didn't buy FF7. Besides the fact that it was ported to pc, at the time the only capable console for such a game was the playstation.

A) Look at the publisher. (It's sony in the west.)

B) Sega Dreamcast.  It could of been ported to the Dreamcast eaisly.

C) Sony spent millions of dollars advertising FF7 for square and also picked up a bunch "rights of first refusal" for other planned games.   Final Fantasy Tactics, Bushido Blade and something else.... in the deal.

Saturn... it was the saturn.. and the head of Sega was BFF with the head of Squaresoft back then.. many expected they would switch from the N64 to the Saturn also because it was the leading console in Japan...

Don't forget Sony waved away the extra costs for 3 discs...

Yeah.  Saturn my bad... which was EXTREMLY popular in Japan.

It really was the logical choice... Disc drive, pedigree, best friend...

Very poor 3d capabilities. No relations between Sega and Square. Relations between Square and Sega archrival Nintendo. Four times the install base in just Japan.

Yeah, very logical. Especially making a 3d game on the worst 3d capable system.

Four times the install base in japan?

Are you under the impression FF7 was released just recently?

FF7 didn't do anything Saturn couldn't do... and you know... Saturn was more popular then PS1 at the time.

A lot of people actually credit FF7 for putting PS1 over top.

Also, you know... we're talking exclusivity here.

Extraction is not free, its sold on PSN for 15 bucks, the DS2 version was 10 bucks more(i could be wrong) and you still had to buy DS2 and it was a year later, It wasnt like PS3 owners just woke up one day and found the game on their HDDs

LA Noire and Dead Space 2 I'd say yes they paid something or did some deal or another.

Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 I think it's unlikely.  Kratos was just a great guest character for MK and MS would have had everything Sony had for Portal 2 if they let Steam work on the 360.  Since they don't, they don't.

I would agree except with Dead Space 2, Extraction and Move support is a no brainer.  Kinnect wouldn't really work so smooth with it, if at all.

Yeah but I just don't feel like EA would go back and port Dead Space Extraction for Move to include it for free with Dead Space 2 without a little incentive.  If they were selling it separate I'd agree but putting extra work in to give something away for free that only goes to one console just seems obviously like it was paid work to me.  Even ports take effort and it seems weird to put that effor in to just one console for no reason.

To make more people buy Dead Space 2 seems a pretty good reason, they also sell Extraction on its own via PSN.

Oh yeah? crap I'm wrong all over this thread, that's what I get for trusting random things I remember hearing on the internet and wiki.  Guess I'll concede that I have no clue which of these are paid for or not and just go back to doin' somethin else.

...

Extraction did come with DS2 Limited Edition for standard price. But yes, now its $15 if you want it.

Warner Bros. has recently been releasing PS3-exclusive content, from Kratos in the new Mortal Kombat, to DC Universe Online, to the extra Joker content in Batman: Arkham Asylum.  Perhaps Warner Bros. and Sony have some sort of relationship (maybe in part due to them both being involved with films/dvds as well).

I dont think they paid for any of it...in the true sense of paying if u know what i mean.

I see it more as strategic partnerships and maybe with a few perks here and there for both parties.

Kratos in mortal kombat is just a win win situation for both Sony and MK publisher. Kratos has a huge fanbase, more so than MK if u look at it sales wise, so kratos definately sold a few copies. And Sony in turn gets some exclusive content. Midway (not sure if they are the devs for MK??) said they wanted an exclusive character for xbox as well but im not sure what happed there? maybe MS wanted them to pay to use one of their characters...and maybe Sony gave Kratos for free in turn for an exclusive demo? u never know.

L.A Noire i think this is kinda obvious. Sony  was the publisher for L.A noire for about a year i think? not sure. And the main guy at the L.A Noire dev said they opted to change publisher (basing this on the recent interview). So in return for changing publisher plus the incured costs for that initial time as the publisher...sony requested exclusive content or something like that.

Portal...well who knows. I really have no clue here. but again i dont think Sony paid for it. There was a speific point in time when gabe newell had a change in attitude towards the ps3, round about the time wen the ps3 started seeing really good sales. So probably to create a better reputation amongst ps3 gamers, he appeared at e3 and gave exclusive content maybe just to avoid portal boycott sales from crazy ps3 fanboys. Again nothing seems obvious here to me....sony might have actually paid for that change in heart from Gabe ;). Im going with my first idea cos im a Sony fan :P

Dead space free extraction game. Hmmm seems obvious to me, kinda fits in with the move perfectly and plus they are selling it on psn. EA and Son do have a close relationship in general (most of the time).

I think these cases are different from the exclusive assassins creed add campaigns...which i think Sony pays actual money for or something resulting in reduced costs for ubisoft ;)

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

Dead space 2 because of the move thing.

L.A.Noire project started with some investment from Sony;..I guess they got their money back but they didn't forgot sony's investment?

They wanted to create an exclusive mortal kombat character for X360 aswell (read it here on the forums) but in the end it didn't happen for a reason..

Portal 2,  Maybe because of valve's past they wanted to do something extra for Sony?

They just shared some of their knowledge and gave technical support for free. I think that Sony is against the policy of paying something for extra contents or timed exclusives.

Oh... this explains the other thread.

Though no... they aren't.

All they've ever done is occasionally take shots and MS for having more overt "paying" for exclusives.

IE offering real money, vs discounts on liscensing fees, advertising support and the like.

Sony has been buying exclusives since FF7.

For sure they didn't buy FF7. Besides the fact that it was ported to pc, at the time the only capable console for such a game was the playstation.

SE got a new HQ before FF7 and they didn't had the money for it someone should have helped wonder who....
