I have not seen clear data or user breakdowns showing this...

However a company I work for has a mobile app on Iphone, Android and Blackberry. And the Android app is by far the least used out of those 3. Most likely due to the fact a lot of android userbase doesn't use data plans or the device as a smartphone.

Well I was under the impression that most if not all phones with an Android OS on it was a Smartphone, or are you referring to their intended usage by the customer?

Correct.

A lot of android devices are sold to consumers at $0 on a 2-3 year contract , some of which don't require data.I'm thinking a lot of people are buying older android phones when they need a replacement for their Razor or some LG cellphone.

Well all android phones offered at Sprint require a data plan.  And Verizon is the same way I believe, I would imagine this is the case across all carriers, at least in the USA.
