Forums - Microsoft - New Alan Wake confirmed, but it's not 'Alan Wake 2'

Remedy has confirmed that it's working on a new Alan Wake game -- but it's not the "Alan Wake 2" that was outed from an artist's resume. Oskari Häkkinen, head of franchise development for the Finnish developer, confirmed to Joystiq that a slice of the team is crafting "this next Wake installment," which is neither sequel nor downloadable content.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that, yes, more Wake is coming!" he said. "But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC." The full explanation, "when we'll actually SHOW YOU," is being saved for the official announcement later.

If it's not a sequel, then what is it? (What is it with you and confounding nebulousness, Alan?) "It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board." Our guess is that it's an updated version of the original scary-forest sim, possibly aimed at more platforms.

Remedy is not announcing platforms or release dates yet, but told us that "Fall 2011 is probably a good guess." Also a good guess? Nowhere near a Rockstar game.

Full Remedy statement:

So referring to your most recent Joystiq post ... It's awesome to hear you say that Alan Wake appears in your hearts – I've read through all the responses on your site which is fueled with positive responses. It really would seem Alan Wake is very close to the hearts of the fans out there, and to ours too. To that point, it's a shame that this news leaked before our official announcement which will of course include the visuals and information to support it. Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, we owe it to you and the fans to shed a little more light before we get the chance to officially show them what the guys have been up to.

Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually SHOW YOU.
We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board.

We can't wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess. More coming soon!

I just found this also

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-09-remedy-has-great-ideas-for-alan-wake-2

A sequel to Alan Wake would be Microsoft-exclusive despite developer Remedy owning the intellectual property and controlling its destiny.

"With Microsoft Game Studios it's Xbox exclusive, or it's Xbox and PC," franchise development head Oskari Häkkinen told Eurogamer in an exclusive interview.

"Please don't put that Alan Wake 2 is going to come out on PC, because that might not be true! Either is a possibility."

Remedy said Alan Wake will remain a Microsoft exclusive because it fits in with the US company's portfolio of first-party games.

"Microsoft put a lot of beef behind the title for it to be an exclusive for the 360. They feel it's an important title for their portfolio. It fits into their portfolio among other games like Gears of War, Halo and Forza.

"They think of their first-party games as a package and a portfolio for the 360. My understanding is we have a great fit in that portfolio as well."

Ya I adjusted my post, so it's unlikely to PS3.

I think an enhanced edition of Alan Wake, with new episodes, all DLC added, and Kinect support.

Would explain the pricing (Price as a kinect game or a normal 360 game?) the platforms (Kinect) and 'Slice of our team over the last few months' means basically all they're working on is adding Kinect and some new eps, not an entirely new game.

Alan Wake - dance the night away  for kinect?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
