Uninstalling the game data from the hard drive shouldn't harm your save file at all. The only thing you lose is the time it takes to reinstall the game itself.
Might give this a try, but closer to last resort.

I had the same problem in another dungeon, doesnt seem to be the same place for everyone. Tried deleting/reinstalling date and didnt work. I did change the save slot the file was in that i was playing though and it never froze again. I was around 100 hrs when it started for me and at that point had never had 1 freeze whatsoever. Very wierd issue that seems to be sooooooo random.
Yea, it's so damn random that what you did is actually worth a shot, although I actually deleted many of my (older) saves to see if that had an effect, which it didn't..

If you look through my post history, this was my biggest issue with the game. Once I got to the second disc, I averaged one freeze per 2 hours of gameplay. Due to somewhat sparse savepoints, it made a bad game even more frustrating to play.
EDIT: I was playing the game on the 360. I did install the game on my HDD to try and make it better, but there was no major difference.
Sifting through 18000 posts is a real task! ;) Thanks for the feedback, the errors seem to differ even more across platforms. I've been contemplating skipping all battles in Miga Insect Warren to see if I get around it.

I actually had numerous freezing problems when playing the original Xbox version. With the PS3 version i have over 130 hours and almost 4000 battles and haven't had a single problem. My brother also played through the entire game with no problems.
I wonder if the issue stems from individual copies of the game. Some discs might just be "bad".
Yea, which is pretty careless I'd say. It actually seems like more hassle to get a replacement disc than to just...give up
