Forums - Gaming - Which has a better chance of happening?

Just thought I would put this out there since I tend to believe this PSN thing is overblown and that some people are more paranoid than need be.

I haven't changed by cards yet, but I intend to. I am just being lazy about it. However I asked a few people at work and not surprisingly they all thought the same way I do about the situation.

What has better odds of happening?

#1.) CC info from PSN de-encypted and used.

#2.) Struck by lightning.

#3.) CC info taken when card is used in restaurant.

#4.) CC info taken when card is used at gas station.

#5.) CC info taken when buying from any online retailer.

#6.) Winning the New York Lottery.

What I am trying to say is this.

For all you know your CC info could have just as easily be taken during normal day activities and getting bent out of shape about your info at the moment does you no good. Credit and Debit cards naturally carry risk and nothing is completely safe, especially in places where it is handed off and people walk away with them.

Just relax. If anyone is going to be paranoid and get bent out of shape they probably shouldn't use them to begin with.

I say all of the above. Someone could use someone's CC onfo on a restaurant gas station that has an online retail while getting struck by lightning right before winning the New York Lottery.

But what if they also use that card over the phone when ordering Chinese take-out? O_o

From PSN, I doubt it. But SOE had unencrypted bank numbers and cc numbers.

Plus you could always get your address leaked on the internet

My address has been leaked by the White Pages, amongst others.

How else you think these companies keep sending you shit you never asked for?

Ever wonder what happens with that personal info you fill out for those discount cards from the grocery store? Yup, you guessed it!

I pay over the phone to my local Chinese and Pizza places all the time.

Glad they do that too since I never carry cash.

Gotta make sure I don't do so because there is no guarantee Capt. Obvious will save me when getting mugged. At least if my card gets stolen Capt. Bank will save me with just a phone call.

I think actually expecting something bad is too much, but I certainly believe people have a right, and for the sake of principle, duty, to be angry. While they obviously take risks with cards normally, Sony put their information at risk without their consent when they trusted Sony.

If I trip, it's fine, but if you make me trip, even if accidentally, that's a completely different story. Bad analogy, I know, but it conveys the message.

I do think that this is just for the sake of principle, though, and that it's quite meaningless to be seriously worried and that Sony certainly seems to be doing a good job trying to prevent losses now.

Well citizen if those thefts use those stolen CC's to order out that means they like pizza or chinese food.
