Forums - General - Will USA still give over $3 billions yearly to Pakistan?

Only fools would believe that Pakistan didn't "house" Bin Ladin after he was found/shot 200m from Pakistan's capitol. Living in luxury and all.

What do you think?

Well Pakistan's intelligence services and police are nutoriously corrupt. I think honestly the higher ups might not have known anything. Think about it the facility was searched by security forces shortly after being built in 2003. However sources say Bin Laden didn't move in till 5-6 years ago meaning he wasn't their till 2005.

Also check points were erected in the past few years due to the fighting between Government forces and Pakistani Taliban. However according to Osama's wife Bin Laden didn't leave the compound for the last five years. So the security forces check points would not have spotted him.

Also their were no phones or electronic devices in the compound. They also burnt all their trash within the walls. Only two men routinely left the compound. Also according to Pakistani Authorities their are several walled compound in Abbottabad the security forces wouldn't have any reason to scrutinize the facility.

Osama was very careful to make sure his facility stayed below the grid. The neighbours were alittle suspicious but they too were clue less. Another thing you have to remember is the Pakistani intelligence service is corrupt and fighting an insurgency.

In the end I actually believe nobody at the top of Pakistan's Government were likely aware of Osama's location. I also don't believe that the Pakistani Government was looking for him just like they aren't pursuing Afghan Taliban. Pakistan has its own Taliban to worry about and traditionally don't care about what happens to Afghanistan.

In the end I think the US should put requirments on the delivery of military aid. The US should say "Okay we want the Pakistani Army to take action on these locations, we want re-inforcements and better trained troops at this border check point, we want to see these Taliban leaders targetted, we want to see these terrorist camps destroyed. Comply with these demands and we will give you the 3-billion in military aid.

Essentially make the Pakistani Army and Government work for their money. Dictate how the money will be spent. But I don't think it would be wise for the US to pull all of its aid, that would bankrupt the army and lead to Taliban taking over large swaths of it. You have to remember that Pakistan is fighting an insurgency too. If Pakistan were to be weakened Taliban or Al-Quida could get their hands on a nuke or two. Or almost as bad seize control of most of the country.

So I think the US should demand more of Pakistan and dictate how the money is spent. But to pull out all the aid would really be very bad for the US and the world.

Probably a few people knew it but whole the government ...........Hmm doubt it..

I imagine they'll still get the money.  Hell we give money to nations we completely disagree with.

It's like we're freaking made of money or something.

US donates money to bring the country into an economic debt system after which US can order the country to work for them

Actually, you are. You just keep printing them and ship it overseas.

A trillion misplaced here and there. Nobody cares.

We probably should'nt,but we will. They knew, but it doesn't matter as our options are limited anyways.

I think it's egregious that they dare to yell at us for the compound raid, and the raids across the border into their territory. Don't like it? Get control of your own land and we won't have to do it

All of this double-dealing and treachery on Pakistan's part is just due to their paranoia towards India's influence in the region. We should respond by redoubling our diplomatic connections with India, as that's the only thing that would really put fear into Pakistani hearts, and keep them in line

Or it could backfire and cause Pakistan to aim nukes at India and ally themselves with China. Pakistan is known for being wishy washy with the terrorists. They always seem to think that the terrorists will want peace and help them keep India's influence low.

Just look at how many peace agreements the Pakistani Government has signed with the Pakistani Taliban. Every time they say "Lets have a cease fire and make peace" the Taliban agrees and then after a few weeks "Bamb" and another building has been blown up, then the Government always tries to mend the situation claiming the cease fire and peace agreement remain in place and then rat tat tat an army check point gets attacked by 200 taliban. Then its back to war until the Government brokers the next cease fire and repeates the scenerio again.

Also look at the Afghan Government, they are doing the same thing. They want to negotiate a peace deal with the Taliban so that they can re-integrate into society. Karzai talks about a cease fire and official peace with the Taliban. Of course once an agreement is made the US and her allies will leave and them blamo their goes the Parliament building and a couple days later all hell will break loose.

The problem is the Governments peaceful way of thinking. They always think that the Taliban wants peace and that they can be negotiated with. Obama himself has this view talking about peace agreements with the Taliban. Fact is the Taliban are not known to keep their agreements and at first chance will stab the Government in the back.

As for stirking fear into their hearts. At the moment the Government fears India more then the Taliban. When your afraid you tend to defend yourself. Fear is not the way to get a democracy like Pakistan to work good. You've got to take control of the situation and assert yourself. Holding the 3-billion dollars ransom would be far more effective then trying to make them afraid of your weapons. Do that and they will support the Taliban even more, heck possibly give them a nuke or two!
