Forums - Gaming - A way to improve credibility of REVIEWS

There are way too many dubious reviews out there these days. I often wonder how much time these 'journalists' spend with a game before they assign a score.

So...

Why don't EDGE, IGN, Gamespot etc all have PSN and Xbox live accounts so that the gamers can actually see how far the reviewer has played through the game. Of course they wouldn't want to do this, but if someone is brave enough to do it then they would have set a higher standard and we could take them more seriously.

What do you guys think?

Maybe. But I doubt most people would even bother to check.

This is an excellent idea imo. because i remember when GT5 came out it turns out a lot of reviewers didnt play the game to about 50% completion, yet alone 100% - i would like to see these 'professionals' prove their worth instead of simply stating it!

It's easy. Just find the reviewers gamertag and log on to Xbox.com. It has an updated achievment list. Last I checked playstation.com was crap, so I don't know if you can do it from there

I would most certainly check if I read a review on a game I just bought and I was PSN friends with them already. It would literally take a few seconds.

For instance, I suspect many of the glowing reviews for Demon's Souls were made without the reviewer actually getting very far. They had pressure on them to get a review out as soon as possible, and then wouldn't dare give it a bad score since there were so many hardcore RPG guys praising it all over the net.

So, if this system was in place then we could've laughed at these guys who review a game that takes many, many hours to understand and they evidently only played for 8-10 hours. More likely is that they would rather not put a review out, which I think is a better choice.

Same thing with GT5. How seriously could you take a review after playing the behemoth of a game for only 1 day?

I doubt whether most played it to 25% completion tbh.

LOL edge don't even write their names of reviewers of the games, they just print them as if its coming from the magazine itself. Good luck finding their gamertags.

''Just find the reviewers gamertag''

Don't they keep that confidential?

If not, how do we find the PSN names of the guys at IGN etc?

I doubt that they would release that info.

Yeah, and I think that's a little rediculous since the technology is in place for us to verify that they have actually been playing the games they review.

It's SO EASY to watch a few video reviews and read a few articles before pumping out a review. I'm convinced that this happens much more than it should.

*Shrugs*

I found Jim Sterling's gamertag at one point, and I know several of the reviewers on this sites gamertags.

The thing wrong with your plan is, last I checked there is a maximum amount of friends you can have. 100, right? So only 100 people would be able to be friends with them.
