I'm on Comcast.  I just found out that I'm capped from this article.  That sucks.  I don't even know how much I use.  The biggest part of it is probably Netflix.

My only other option where I live?  AT&T U-Verse.  Fuck me.

I imagine that you are probably capped off the same as me which is 250Gb

Now I watch a lot of netlix and other people download a lot, play internet games, and watch tons of Hulu and the closest we have ever come to reaching the cap is 210 GB.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I am not even close to the limit.  It just sucks that I have no options as a consumer.

Digital downloads should be pretty OK... Well, unless you have just reformatted your hard drive and want to download 20 previously purchased games in a row.

If you're using more than 250GB/month, you deserve to pay a tax on it.

I do a lot of Internet work and I have yet to surpass 200GB. Then again, I'm not stealing every fucking thing on planet Earth (though I do torrent a fair amount), which is the only way you're going to surpass 250GB in a month's time.

Should remove the caps for all and throttle the speed for heavy users.  And no, playing games all the time and watching a few movies will not make you a heavy user before people complain.

They already throttle heavy speed users.

What I find funny is my internet connection.  It varies wildly... with nothing to do with peak times.  Unless 3AM is a peak time.

If your entire neighborhood unthrottles their torrents at night like most people I know do, yeah, it's a peak time.

I have Comcast. You don't have to worry. I run five websites (lots of FTPing), constantly transfer 100MB files up and down from a cloud server, watch Netflix almost every night, torrent 40-50GB of files in your average month (and even seed back at around a 1 ratio), and still haven't crested 200GB.

I've read pretty much every post in this thread and all I have to say is: "Fuck AT&T." Bandwidth isn't a natural resource. We create it and we should have unlimited of it. It's not hard to get a bigger server. My brother plays a shit ton of WoW and I'm always on YouTube or battle.net and Steam chewing up bandwidth because that's what you do on the internet. It's a bunch of shit that they think they can get away with this. We shouldn't be getting capped by a "resource" that we can have unlimited of.

That's just it. Bandwidth is NOT unlimited. It requires hardware, electricity, and loads of other goodies (not including maintenance/monitoring labor). Ever seen how much power a small server farm requires? They consume more juice than the entire Empire State Building, and that's just for a modest one-or-two level farm.

Why do people think this stuff is free? IT'S NOT.
