Technically it was them. The hacker was "anonymous." The fact is Sony was hacked by someone. It could very well have been one of the group or someone else. At the end of the day Anonymous was very out in the open recently aboput there dislike for Sony and attempted to shut down their network. This could all be a big rouse on Sonys part to press charges against hackers in general. Who knows. Sony will use this to their advantage and I hope it is a big victory for them. While I think it is perfectly fine to mod your PS3 or 360 to do what you want, once Sonys or Microsofts network is involed it should become a crime. If you are modding a unit that connects to a server and potentially opening up a security risk in the process then your should be prosecuted.

Well just like you are asking to not have all hackers lumped into one group, I dont think you should lump all Sony Supporters into one group as well. There are many Sony Supporters who know that Sony shoulders some of the blame for the security problems with the PSN. Just not all of it as some posters would want you to believe. |
Of course as with all generalizations there are some who dont. Its jsut the majority of the arguments i see.

oh the thing is tho even I blame Sony to an extent, they should have done a better job at security for sure. But this whole mess is thanks to hackers. If someone robs a store, I won't only blame the store manager who didn't lock the door properly, I will put the blame mostly on the bastards who came in and took our stuff!

I think you have to read between the lines...or between the inbetweeners...or something.

You know the only information we have concerning that is a guy reporting they were running an old version of Apache.
That version while not being up todate had no known security hole...

You did say:
"No i dont agree. I have yet to see sony supporters reconcile the fact that sony did not keep their server software up to date which is a basic security task."
So that means the hackers have a right and are not to blame for hacking Sony's servers.
Actually, it very much reinforces the idea that an anon member was behind this.
"Prof00 you're such a sony fanboy and just ignoring facts, and now you're pretending to be malstrom."
Yes to the second, but to the first? Maybe. The facts show that data was taken, but no CC companies have reported strange activity, and nobody has reported theft of any kind, not even identity theft....well at least none that I've heard about other than in a forum.
This is typical of anonymous. It's all about scaring the opposition into submission. Anon is never about doing actual irreperable harm. This is a simple message to Sony to back off.
So sorry to everyone who thought that this was fake, and that Sony was going to collapse. It's just another slap on the wrist.

I think you are reading too much into that
