Forums - Nintendo - Report Project Cafe has 8GB storage and Blu-ray-like 25GB discs

Eurogamer

Project Cafe, Nintendo's codenamed successor to the Wii, reportedly has 8GB of on-board Flash memory.

The new console also uses 25GB discs as well as a controller with a touch-screen that can either produce a traditional button layout, supplementary game information or play full, streamed games.

That's according to Kotaku, which verified the details with "sources familiar with Nintendo's planned 2012 gaming machine".

The report didn't state conclusively whether Project Cafe will support 1080i resolution or 1080p.

Project Cafe's 8GB of storage alludes to a less ambitious game/film/content download service than on PS3 and Xbox 360. And if rumours are correct and Nintendo's new machine out-grunts PS3 and Xbox 360, shouldn't 1080p be an easily achievable goal?

What's more, we're still none the wiser whether the disc format is Blu-ray, although the 25GB capacity matches that of a single-layer Blu-ray.

Nintendo is expected to end speculation with an E3 reveal next month.

Digital Foundry explored the possible architecture of Project Cafe for Eurogamer last month.

8GB? That's sounds far too low, especially if they are trying to have the most robust online community next gen. DF is a credible source, but that still sounds a little "off" to me.

8GB is subject to change. Microsoft doubled the quantity of RAM before the launch of the Xbox 360 so they can easily do the same here. Anyway chances are they'll have a HDD or storage expansion pack with a bundle of games pre-installed or they'll give you the option of again expanding with the SD cards.

Tease.

well i'm fine with 8gb. i hate the many models of the hd twins with just differnet hd size.  and talk about overpricing of hard drives too.

also i hope the small hard drive means developers won't throw in a 5 gig install.  i buy games on my computer that are about that size and its the ENTIRE GAME.

seriously who doesn't easily ahve a external hard drive they can use, or easily buy one for much cheaper than the console maker would charge

8GB is nothing especially with Demo's and DLC... I have over 150 GB in DLC/downloadable  games   PS3/X360..

THIS.

My ps3 already has 200gb of data on the HDD and I'm not storing movies. I just can't see how this is viable not that I care muchfor nintendo in the first place.

if it uses a bluray drive, installs may be required for some games ( like what happens on ps3 ) and if thats the case how is 8 gigs sufficient?

there absolutely is no way that this is true

right?

25GB for its media definitely gonna be a single layer blu-ray disc is what i believe... =_=

and if the 8GB goes to RAM memory it will be a really epic console too bad that's impossible... xD
