Alright, I have to say I'm a lot more annoyed with the sawed off shotgun after today. About 90% of my deaths came from it, many times when I wasn't even close to the guy using it. It's really freaking annoying when the entire team is using them.

On another note, why does it seem sometimes like Epic doesn't know how to put a power weapon in a map without making the area around it camper heaven? I'm looking at you, whoever designed Thrashball and Trenches. Let's give whoever has mulcher a raised platform that the only way you can go and attack him is by running up the stairs right past him and going all the way around, pray he's not paying attention and maybe you can sneak up behind him, and let's also give him a perfect angle to annhilate anyone who's coming out of the tunnels from spawn. Then, let's give whoever has the one-shot the top of a hill it takes 10 days to run across to even get to him. I just played a game that ended with an entire team camping around the one-shot. I just don't get why whoever's designing these maps doesn't understand that people don't enjoy it when somebody sits on the power weapon almost the entire freaking game and does nothing else.

Grenades? If the whole team is camping in one place, they are free frags. Especially on the one shot level since mortar is on the opposite side, the only reason a team is able to keep the power weapons and tactical position, is if they outplay the other team. Since its really easy to counter with either nades, boltock pistol headshots (on the guy aiming the mulcher) or good team work. Plus the mortar and the mulcher is always in a very exposed location with at least 3 sides you can get shot from, sometimes all 4.

If whoever has the one shot gets hit by a mortar, they're a moron. The mortar doesn't even cover half the area where one shot is, never mind that it's a pretty easy shot to hit anyone who picks it up. There's nothing about outplaying the other team when gaining a tactical advantage consists of the entire team running en masse to the one shot because they've been getting their butts handed to them the entire game. Besides, I'm not sure how much you've played this beta, but expecting good teamwork from randoms is a hysterical proposition in Gears 2, and this beta has done nothing to change my opinion.

You cant shoot the guy using the mortar with oneshot thats what the container is for. And yes i know you can move around, but nothing is stoping the dude using mortar from placing the shot on either right or left side, making you guess. Plus you where complaining about how the whole team was camping up there which is why i even mentioned the mortar.

If the guy up there is alone even if he has the oneshot you can easily go up there and have a battle with him without he has a chance to hit you with the oneshot. I always queue with at least 1 friend, don't like running with 4 randoms and hoping that someone knows how to play. I am level 28 btw. Been playing since week 1.

Power weapons are only good if you have good Team play. Or if the other team is a bunch of noobs who just run around in the open and don't know how to use cover.

I am in the, "if you can't beat them, join them" camp with the SOS.  I use it pretty frequently on KOTH and CTL as that is ALL that anybody uses there.  I still don't like it, but I use it (and yes it is still frustrating to die from it!).

Regarding map design, I don't mind the power weapon layout on Trenches too much, as I think both the One-Shot and the Mortar have thier strenghts on this map.  When rushing one-shot, I've found that that box in the middle and smoke, are your best friends.

Regarding Thrashball though, I agree, the power weapons need adjusting.  If you can grab and hold the high ground, the only power weapon available to the other team is grenades and those are easily avoided.  Torque or Digger are available early on, but that's a high-risk, low reward location given how open that area is, and the scoreboad almost always is shot down by the second spawn, thus eliminating that power weapon.  In thrashball, if a good team caps the high ground, there isn't a whole lot the opposing team can do.

I've created a new thread here, to talk about specific maps.  I am really digging this beta and will be in withdrawal when they take it away from us!

I do have a problem with the complaints over the SOS.  It's not over powered, it's an instant death gun for close quarters designed to keep gnasher rollers from rushing you.  That has always been the biggest problem with gears community...too many gnasher users manipulating epic to take away anything that prevents them from just rolling up and hip shooting you.  They gimped lancer's, they gimped melee's, anything and everything to keep the gnasher community happy.  Gears 3 has a chance to bring back the core player that gears 2 lost hopefully epic will keep a level head and keep the SOS and the gnasher just the way they are.

I don't have a problem with Epic trying to give players an alternative to CQB battles with the Gnasher, but whatever that solution is, make it require SOME skill.

Something more than, "Get close, pull trigger".

Like 'em or not, gnasher battles (especially well palyed gnasher battles) require skill and timing.  The SOS requires neither.

Look at this another way: the rifle equivalent of the SOS, would be the One-Shot, with auto tracking so that you basically never missed.  How much skill would THAT take to get a kill?  None at all really...

lol I'm loving the big heads and squeaky voices.

Yeah, Cliffy B let out on his twitter that Big Heads and Squeeky VOices was the "surprise" for today.   I don't know how long it will last though, as I haven't been on all day, and won't be able to get on till later tonight.

They are having fun with this beta...I imagine we'll see holiday stuff like this after the real launch (like the bunnyheads).

I'm a little worried the gnasher community is already gathering steam to get the DBS and Retro gimped.  A quick review of the Gears boards and it's the same old gnasher community trying to alienate the rest of the players...apparently you can only play gears if you use the gnasher and the hammer otherwise you are a noob that has no right to play.

Thankfully I make the cut since I use the hammer and gnasher (although I would like try out the retro a little more).  The sad thing is the gnasher community thinks it's the reason gears exists still but they don't realize they drove literally millions of users away, including me, to other games because we wanted a more well rounded experience.  There just wasn't enough fun in pulling out my shotty every map and going rollin for some host kills.  I'm glad they put in a couple of new guns it forces everyone to be a little more creative.  Don't go jumping into a 3 on 1 fight and expect to win, that was never they way gears was designed to be played.  Keep an eye on your backside or some guy with a SOS will earn a kill.  If you know a guy is rolling with a SOS keep you distance, make him come to you.  If he is locked down in a corner area go get some grenades.  I really think these new weapons bring gears back to what it was designed to originally be (that and the marking feature- which is awesome).
