Forums - Microsoft - MS building a new first party studio in Vancouver

It might not be a Kinect related software house, but they're probably making more shooters... Something the Xbox doesn't quite need at the moment. Microsoft keep cornering themselves with that approach and Kinect doesn't seem to be changing their image, in my opinion.

At the very least, it's a modern setting with guns involved, just take a look at the artwork on their site. We can all present however many arguments as we want to, but the nickname "shooterbox" didn't materialise out of thin air.

Edit: It would seem I am partly right, going by this rumour: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/rumor-microsoft-game-studios-vancouver-working-on-core-kinect-s/

I believe that nickname is for the Xbox 1.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

This studio just formed?  When are we supposed to see what they're working on, 3 years??  It's almost like this is a Xbox Next move ...

So anyone want to put odds on this being another shovelware kinect factory?

Pretty low I would say, but with MS you never know I suppose.

"MGS Vancouver is building a world-class development team in Vancouver, BC, Canada, dedicated to making games for "core" gamers. Our mission is to push the limits of proven and unexplored game development and show the world what's possible on Microsoft's game consoles. And yes, we're also an awesome place to work"

yea but then theres this http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-02-microsoft-planning-aaa-kinect-shooter#justposted

it is a kinect shooter lol, knowing that puts the odds alot higher

Shooter is a broad genre. Games like Rez, Sin and Punishment,  and Panzer Dragoon fall in that genre as well.

That doesn't exactly fill me with hope about this new game lol

I never get my expectations too high. But it sounds promising and I'll leave it to that.

I don't feel the need to trash games just because of the platform.

Fantastic news, MS needs to listen to their fans and build up a stronger first party. They've already developed some incredible franchises as it is if and now that they've added another 1st party studio focused on core games that just means more hopefully quality exclusives.

Now just add 1 or 2 more and I think thats plenty.

It's not the platform it's the controller, IE kinect, they can't even make a character walk in a straight line by the players command how the hell are they going to make a decent shooter

They say core but it's a kinect game they are working on

@ the_wizard_man

And how does them working on a Kinect game mean that it can't be a core title? Sure pretty much everything released so far has been casual but MS is fully aware it was the core gamer that got them where they are today. Not to mention alot of Kinect stuff like Dance Central is fun as hell so I don't mind them developing Kinect stuff at all.
