Considering VC sales, low resolution is not a detriment to sales. There are plenty of real reasons this would not work.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I'd be intersted to see if, historically, gamers even want to play handheld titles on their TV's
How well did Super GameBoy or the Gamecube add-on Gameboy Player actually sell? Anyone know?
