That's like 3 weeks old and also from the database he's compiling. I doubt VGC is that off, it's impossible.

Actually, the VGC figures are probably impossible.  That database comes from the weekly top 50, and that accounts for over 80% of sales on average.

They are logical figures and I don't see anything out of order there, check them. I think Famitsu is making a mistake somewhere or he's not compiled the figures correctly.

How do they compare to MC?

We don't have a MC database figure for comparison.  Famitsu's generally the gold standard since they have the highest direct coverage of any sales tracker (about 70%, which is more than NPD or GfK even in their respective markets).

And rest assured, donny's not making a mistake.  Even if Wii only leads PS3/DS/3DS within the top 50 and not overall, that's still a pretty monumental thing given it's barren schedule and extreme publisher apathy.  It's thanks largely to the Nintendo evergreens and blockbusters, which again sort of plays into Dragon Quest's favor... people still buy a lot of Wii games.

That's because the same team was making the trilogy if I'm not mistaken. So it was 1 game at a time. 3DS was probably revealed to developers in 2009 so they might have switched the development to 3DS as early as 2009, and that's be before they even considered making anotehr DQ game for the Wii. And then with the 2010 confirmation to devs that Wii successor was on its way, I'd doubt anyone in their right minds would chose to develop a Wii game. It's either move the little development made to the 3DS in 2009 or scratch the project. Many cancelled projects are being blamed to the Earthquake, but that's just an excuse devs are using to justif cancelling games. Like Momotarou Railway or Disaster Report 4, or the 3DS games.

I think that if there were some Wii games still unannounced, then it's probable that they have been scratched off or simply moved to 3DS. Moving to Wii 2 may also be possible if Nintendo asked those companies to do so in order to have support at launch and onwards.

You're right about the same team making the remakes but how do we know the same team couldn't be making any DQ games for the Wii besides DQ X, taking some time for the announcement? Anyway with how well DQMJ Professional sold, platform shouldn't matter much. With DQ X coming to the Wii, there should absolutely be no reason not to release a smaller game if they believe the Wii can sell the big game just fine.

Also it's dumb to just consider the multiple DQ thing as a mistranslation without good enough proof.

Edit: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/an-interview-with-dragon-quest-creator-yuji-horii/a-20110217121813881005

GR: In the last few years DQ has become really focused on handheld releases. Do you worry you’re leaving consoles behind?

YH: No, the series got its start on consoles, so we aren’t thinking that way, especially since we’re working on Wii versions of Dragon Quest right now.

I didn't remember that quote and yeah I don't have proof for it being a mistranslation. I remember reading though at GoNintendo and Neogaf the likes of it being a mistranslation, but again without proof, only speculation. It wouldn't be the first time someone is misquoted or mistranslated. Ask Iwata how he feels about the GDC speech, although this doesn't pertain to our topic, but it's a valid example.

VGC should be checking their numbers if that's the case, it's totally embarrassing to have such a massive difference, seriously. Still I would not believe that Wii has got more sales out of the games in the top 50 than the PS3, simply because PS3 has had mutiple 100k + sellers, even 300k sellers this year, while Wii only got a big launch and continued sales from the evergreens. I still think that Wii is 4th, behind DS and PS3. If we talk about 3rd party sales then Wii could probably be behind 360, but I'm not sure.
