Forums - Sales - MS will be in a really bad position when they release their next console

For alot of reasons I'll bullet point them for coinvinence and readability

-Lack of quality exclusives: It's no secret that MSes 1st party is the weakest of the 3 and add to that the fact that they pretty much destroyed (rare), sold off (bioware) or failed to secure (epic/bungie) next gen they will be in the weakest position launch lineup wise, and even if they commision games to be made people will be skepticial if they will retain exclusivity will all the timed exclusive deals MS has done in the past

-Reliability concerns: although it's doubtful that MS will repeat the horrible mistakes of the 360s reliability it will still have many people concerend

-It will be stuck between the ps3, nintendos next console and ps4: Nintendos console will launch ealier and have the headstart and core games this time as well as third party support, ps3 will be selling to everyone who wants a reliable system and low price point and it will have the highest install base so devs will cater to it over the next xbox (360 will have died off or lost almost all suport it's already starting to dwindle) and ps4 will come out a little later and probably beat it in raw power, so 360 really won't have much of a market looking at it ps3 and nintendos system will both have higher install base, lower price point, more and better games, and ps4 will come out a little later with more power and probably a better launch line up (unless Sony tries to pull a double gen for ps3)

-Charging for online: alot of people were ignorant to it or thought they wouldn't care about online when they bought a 360 (just went with the one with lower prince point) or in some cases weren't aware that no1 else charged so yeah people won't be too eager to do that again, especially if Nintendo makes a respectable online service and Sony improves psn significantly before bringing it back up

so yeah I'm sure some people will buy the next xbox but I just don't see it appealing to that many people the biggest snag will be the games unless MS gets their act in gear I just don't see them selling much at all next gen, maybe even end up giving up the console buisness

EDIT: discuss what moves MS might make and if it will improve or worsen their situation for next gen launch

^ this 3 paragraph statement is so dumb it not even funny you cant predict microsoft moves  and their  bussiness practice and i swear ms not that dumb to stop the console bussiness , so your whole thread is just dumb

you can speculate get over yourself, there are 100 topics about psn being down the worst thing to happen to privacy ever which is pure bs and this is the one you choose to call stupid, one which is just speculation, which is what alot of these forums are for

At least. Wait until the rumour of new console before dooming it?

He's just oneupping Malstrom, upon which case I salute him!

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

There is alot of guessing and pure speculation here which people will not even take into consideration for a valid argument at this time, and they are right not to.

But one thing is certain; even if the N6 is just an HD wii, it is still starting the next generation of consoles. Which means the 720 will not have the one true advantage which it had this gen.. the early headstart. That is where the OP is accurate.

But Microsoft knows what they are doing. They will go one of 2 directions with the nextbox. They will either become the leading system for casuals through Kinect 2.0 or whatever, or they will buy certain developers. One or two huge purchases need to be made to create unique exclusives for Microsoft next gen.

If this is the case one giant purchase of Activision or EA would really be something which would solidify Microsofts first party lineup alongside the competition.

The Wii was released second this generation and has annihilated both PS3 and 360. No one probably predicted that after Gamecube's mediocre to lackluster performance.

I for one actually think that MS have a great opportunity in terms of Kinect. It has had a great reception (especially by the casuals), so if MS improve on the technology and have it built in for the nextbox, they could have a huge success in their hands. By the time the nextbox releases, the casuals will probably have had enough with their Wiis, and since Nintendo seem to be going for the hardcore with their current console, I could see MS capturing the casual market that Nintendo currently has, with some good marketing and R&D (which they are good at). Plus on top of that MS will have the support from most hardcore 360 owners from this gen and 3rd parties as well.

So overall, they could very well succeed, but this is all only speculation.

Neither EA and Activision are up for sale and a hostile takeover could end up with the result being another rare incident, and MS clearly doesn't know what they are doing right now, they are letting all their talented devs go, why do people say MS knows what they are doing? Maybe earlier this gen but they are going in the entirely wrong direction, kinect won't last long if they can't even manage to get a character to walk straight down a hallway in a resonable way for the person so I don't see them winning the causual maket, and if they are going to up their 1st party by launch they need to start buying devs soon

MS won't have the third party support though, it will be spilt between ps3 (high userbase) and wii 2 (first next gen console) and again if they can't get kinect to work right with anything resembling a real game I don't think people will bite, Kinect has been going down in sales for a long time, and they still need a killer ap I don't think dance central is gonna sell a 400 console to alot of people
