Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: people want 3DS, but are waiting

Suuure Iwata, good excuses you got there for investors. I mean, you just launched an overpriced system with uninspiring games and horrible battery life. Clearly a recipe for success!

Worked for the PSP.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

the lack of good games is the main reason i don't have a 3DS right now, but the batterly life doesn't help its cause either. If it had a good launch lineup I would have bought a 3DS day one o doubt. I can't wait for Paper Mario 3DS, that's gonna be epic! I may just wait for the 3DS Lite or whatever it will be called, because i know if i buy a 3DS i will end up buying the 3DS Lite when it comes out.

"If new things are so great, where have they been the whole time?"

Why people complain about price? I think the first time it's showed at E3, people think 250US$ is a reasonable price for 3DS, even it's a bit high but still acceptable [Correct me if I am wrong].

About the weak launching title, I agree with it being a main reason why 3DS not selling better than now. To be honest, When I think they delay the 3DS launch date last year, we gonna get a better line up for launching title, but we don't. Even DOAD for Europe launching title is being delayed. So I believe that's why. But I still hope 3DS sales will recover in not so distant future.

I don't think it's as easy as you say, but in a way, yeah. It's just that compared to previous handhelds, it wasn't a horrible failure ( though I must check to be sure about the details ) and thanks to population growths and more markets worldwide, sold well. Against this, it only sold a bit less than half of the DS, so not really such a success as you think.

Iwata is right, i got 3DS just i have no 3DS game at the moment

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Odd isn't it.

The head of the company which made the console that has just taken the crown for the highest selling games console ever having to front up and explain why the immediate successor to that highest selling game console ever isn't selling as well as people had hoped it would...because it's got no games.

Anyone else see the irony here?

If you're going to charge $250 for a handheld gaming device and expect it to sell monumentally, you need to have software available that consumers would have rushed to buy had it been on a different platform.

Consumers appear to be saying the 3DS does not currently have $250 worth (plus the price of the games themselves) of compelling games.

For some that may only be one or two games. For others it may mean more games than they can reasonably afford to buy along with the console. But I seriously doubt anyone's buying one to play Pilot Wings, Nintendogs or SSFIV.

Even as a Day 1 3DS adopter, I'm inclined to agree that the 3DS does not have the games to really warrant the purchase of a new platform. The only game I've been playing on mine is SSFIV and mainly because it was $25 with a credit, it's right there, so I may as well play it. But I definitely did not need to buy a 3DS to play SSFIV.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen someone on the interwebs or talked with someone in reality about how they're waiting for a particular game.

I include myself in that as well, because I'm waiting for Mario Kart...

And some people think Iwata's getting out of touch. This is a veiled way of him apologizing to investors about the weak launch lineup

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm not getting a 3DS because I want to get a NGP instead. =O

Playstation All-Stars is one of the best games I've played this gen, and is the most fun I've had in a game this gen.
