I bought a kindle recently and have been reading Isaac Asimov's robot series (Caves of steel and The Naked Sun, currently reading The Robots of Dawn). They're pretty good and free, and they will last me for a couple of months.

I've been willing to put an effort on reading more because it stimulates my imagination and expands my vocabulary. I find that I'm constantly using the dictionary function.

I like Asimov. You know the Robot series is linked to the Foundation series and Empire series? Are you going to read all the way to Empire and Earth?

That's right. I originally was going to read Foundation but I decided to start from the beginning chronologically. Just started reading Robots and Empire. I downloaded a collection of his works to my kindle (He's dead anyways)  and I'm set.

Good decision, I like how he links everything and the mithology around it. Enjoy

For school, just the ones I had to read, same thing now in the university, only that I prefer the stories I read at school over the law school things I have to read now.

Because of that, I dont read if Im not obligated.

But I do remember liking some books from my school years, like the catcher in the rye and 100 years of solitude, only that unlike a movie, its tedious to read again a whole book you liked once, could be like rewatching the whole DBZ series or playing a huge RPG again xD

Is that book any good? I've been meaning to read it.

I liked it, it might not be for everyone but if it helps, its very recognized and considered a great book by guys who are into them. Its very long and sometimes you can get confused since lots of characters in different times share the same names.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Hundred_Years_of_Solitude See if that helps, I recognize it can be a pain reading it sometimes but in the end it was worth it at least for me.

The book is only 480 pages long (accoring to the website of the book's publisher here in Romania), so that's definately not what I would call "long" (a book has to be close to or be over 1000 pages to be considered "long"). I'll definately pick it up when I have the time.

Yeah, you are right, but now that I remember I had to read other 100 pages of extra stuff the book had for the test xD

Yes, a lot. Even in a gaming site like this one, with all it's teenage nerds and stuff, you can find a lot of people reading, so overall situation must be good.

Nerds typically read a lot. Maybe geeks aren't heavy readers, and definately some of the other stereotypes, like dorks, jocks, cheerleaders etc.

Maybe old school nerds that dabble in stuff like LOTR, Star Wars etc., but not this gen man. Just take for instance what most people here would consider as a game with a good story and interesting characters.

Nerds typically like to read a lot in order to be knowledgeable (and usually seruious literature, not speculative fiction). I think you're confusing them with geeks.

Nah, these are dweebs and communists I know a lot of them in the university. Nerds are the virgins who post on gaming sites and think Gordon Freeman is a memorable character, and geeks the ones that enjoy stuff like games and speculative fiction while still having a social life.

LOL, all these weird archtypes. I can't keep track of the mall.

Yeah. I actually read video game novels. I just finished the Metal Gear Solid novel just today. Some of them are interesting. I really would like to see novels on JRPG's actually. Most of the video game novels out there are based off of shooters and Blizzard games.

I'm reading the game of thrones series...just finished reading the first book in the hunger games series and found that to be a baltant plagerized rip off of battle royale...it was sickening...but the game of thrones series is awesome

"I don't know what this Yamcha is, but it sounds just like Raditz."

Yes, many people still do read books. Myself included. If time is a factor, the self-publishing world has a lot of short stories you can read. They're quick and to the point. Although, I still prefer novels.

As long as people keep writing, people will keep reading.
