PlayStation Network 'Short-Term Pain' Worth It for Gamers

PlayStation Network being down for nearly six days has been infuriating some fans. Games like SOCOM 4 and Portal 2 scream out to be played online, and yet this is not possible until PSN is fixed and put back online for the 70 million or so PSN users across the globe. Sony has been updating its customers periodically, noting that it's now rebuilding PSN's infrastructure. This should make the frustration of waiting worth it, argues analyst Michael Pachter.

"I think they're really trying to make the system hack-proof, and there appear to have been some pretty serious security issues. They have to keep the system secure no matter what, so being down a few days is worth it if they can ensure security over the long run," Pachter commented to IndustryGamers. "There will be some short-term pain, but over the long run, gamers will appreciate that Sony is looking out for their best interest."

Pachter may be right that the improvements could be to the benefit of gamers when PSN's back online, but patience is a virtue - one which many gamers simply don't have. Sony would do better to let its customers know approximately when everything will be fixed, even if it's just an estimate.

That's what annoys me about all of this, nobody ever looks beyond the here and now and the gimme gimme gimme. everyone only care about what they get cheap and quickly. If they look at the bigger picture, the would realise that most of Sony's actions to date have your best interest at heart as well as their own.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

it's get back online, when it get's back online. Nothing one can do about it.

Few companies have your best interest at heart, they just want your money. Sony is DEFINITELY one of those companies.

I think you need to take a look at the big picture here. Sony is protecting their ass(ets), nothing more. They don't give a damn about you and have done nothing but prove this time and time again since the launch of the Playstation brand.

With that said, Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, etc. are no better.

They gave us an 'estimate' when they took it down last week remember? "PSN may be back up in a full day or two."

That quote alone is what started everyones hissy fit about how longs it's taken so far. I for one am totally up for however long it takes to get the PSN secure again. My girlfriends credit card is linked to my PSN and she's going through a "omg.. I don't want it on there anymore" fit.

Proud owner of the PSone original, PSone slim, PS2 slim, PS3 slim, PSP-3000.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just pointing out that believing in the benevolence of a mega-corporation is folly. They want your cash, nothing more.

every company cares about a customer, they want to provide a qultity product and/or service that will satisfy the customer while making the company profit. if they dont serve the customer well, they will quickly go out of business.

thats how capitalism works. most companies arent big, evil mega-corporations that want to somp on poor people like many in the US government would lead people to believe. most companies go into business to improve the way of life for people in one way or another, and see an oportunity to make profit doing it.

for example:

Doctors/scientists just dont make medicine, just to make it (generally), they genuinely care about people and want to save people.

rant over.

I'm not asking for much in return Sony....

Just put $10 into my account funds........C'MON IT'S NOT THAT MUCH!
