7. Add something like achievements to your games - Without them, people will continue to pick Harry Potter games over Super Mario Galaxy 2.

This. Because if Twesterm is happy, then I'm happy.

1. Graphics, graphics, graphics - The one big thing that is holding today's Nintendo games back is graphics. Imagine a Super Mario Galaxy game in HD. Glorious. Or The Legend of Zelda. Beautiful.

2. Better online - Next in line, the online. Another problem that Nintendo can easily fix. Without it being an issue, there's not much reason to complain about it anymore. Although some people always find something to whine about.

3. No stupid controller - Now this really shouldn't be hard for Nintendo. Everyone knows what the hardcore gamer wants: The same controller they've played with for almost 15 years.

4. Stop selling hardware at a profit - It's seen as a dishonorable practice. It shows that a company doesn't care for their customers.

7. Add something like achievements to your games - Without them, people will continue to pick Harry Potter games over Super Mario Galaxy 2.

9. No more shovelware - We are sick of it. Stop encouraging third parties to put out low quality games.

Could be a joke thread if those weren't main points responsible for record decline of Wii sales we currently observe.

Nintendo has been at odds with hardcore gamers for god knows how long now, so it will be anything but easy for them to win this segment of the market back. Well, that's what you might think, but the reality is that hardcore gamers can be stupidly easily manipulated by companies, so it really doesn't take a lot for Nintendo to not only be accepted by hardcore gamers again, but to become the most loved video games company of all of them. They just need to follow these ten simple rules:

5. No more casual games - Nobody wants to play this crap. Make real games for real gamers only.

6. Stop talking about business and historical sales data - It's boring and it just shows that you don't really care for gaming.

7. Add something like achievements to your games - Without them, people will continue to pick Harry Potter games over Super Mario Galaxy 2.

8. Do not harm the console sales of Sony and Microsoft - It's mean. Please, don't do it.

9. No more shovelware - We are sick of it. Stop encouraging third parties to put out low quality games.

10. The one rule to rule them all - Following so many individual steps is quite a lot of work, so wouldn't it be great if there was an option that only requires you to keep one thing in mind and still cover everything that was mentioned above? Well, it's your lucky day, Nintendo. Go third party.

That way you are going to offer graphics and online that is satisfactory to the hardcore gamer. You got a good controller and won't get bashed for selling hardware at a profit (because you sell none anymore). You don't need to make casual games anymore, because you have no hardware to sell. Sony and Microsoft will be the ones making these games. You can stop your charade and try to make people believe that you care for the future of the industry for the sake of promoting your hardware. Your games will feature achievements and trophies. You won't hurt the console sales of Sony and Microsoft. No, in fact, you are going to help them both. And no more shovelware problem, because third parties will have to make better games in order to compete with you.

But best of all, by being a third party developer for both, Sony and Microsoft, these companies will shower you with praise for your hard work and hardcore gamers live by those words. If Sony and Microsoft say "Nintendo and motion controls are not cool", then you are not cool, Nintendo. But if they say "motion controls are great", then hardcore gamers also think that motion controls are great.

You see, Nintendo, it doesn't take a whole lot to change the perception hardcore gamers have of you. Just go for it!

Tell that to Sony and MS.

PS: Read about the razor-blade model.

Seriously though, they only have to do one thing, and that is moneyhay every 3rd party blockbuster. FF, Metal Gear, RE, GTA, the works.

As for this thread, the truth hurts, when it makes you laugh that hard.

Yeah I assume Sony and MS are using the "Loss-leader" approach where they make the money back through very expensive periphenelials (terrible spelling I know) on controllers, new software, etc. However, Nintendo beat both on that front as well (nunchuks & wiimotes). Add on the fact that first party games for Wii never get discounted and it appears that Wii is arguably the greatest cash cow ever in video games (Assuming PS2 will have made more when all is said and done). As much of a Wii-hater as I am; from a business standpoint it's incredible

Love the razor model: "A business tactic involving the sale of dependent goods for different prices - one good is sold at a discount, while the second dependent good is sold at a considerably higher price"

I don't see Nintendo going the way of Sega anytime soon myself.  Was a pretty fun read though considering most of the tactics such as selling systems for a loss and including the most powerful graphics available would probably lead Nintendo out of selling consoles.

Is there anyway Sebastian Kramer can look at DLC trends?  Such as companies now talking about DLC before the game is even released (Mortal Kombat) or a month after release (Black Ops).  The trend to exclude things from the original game just so they can include it later for an overpriced DLC.  The trend to release games as buggy, incomplete, full of errors just so they can get it out the door and release patches/DLC later.  The trend to make the end user the beta tester.

Still a good thread...
