Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: Next system released due developers hard time with Wii

I think it would be possible to slightly turn around the situation, if Nintendo released the right games, but with 3rd parties apparently abandonning the Wii, sales levels would never come back to their 2008 peak. Still, it could offer some good surprises, like 2009's record breaking christmas thanks to NSMBWii..

Surprising people? Nothing wrong about nice surprises but what I just expect essentially from a gaming platform is to get good games. If this must be necessarily a surprise, I feel something must have gone wrong... Anyhow, Malstrom, to sum up his neverending rants, just wrote that both 3DS and Wii2 are d0med. Ipse dixit, and we perfectly know that the only guru/prophet/analyst god that makes predictions more accurate than him is Pachter, so let's start building two coffins.

No he didn't. He just insists they won't sell as well unless they turn the focus to mainstream games instead of games that let them show off (such is why Red Dead Redemption outsold Heavy Rain, as the latter is a showing off game, and RDR follows the tried-and-true style GTA set up*).

You don't have to agree with him, but disagree with the points he actually makes.

* I brought that up as an example to show that this applies to any system.

I know, I just stretched his statements for poetic licence and lulz factor.

More like they didn't want to make games for Wii - Hopefully this console will be better

At this point it's understandable that they don't want to continue with the Wii. The console's image has been severly damaged and without good third party support in the next couple of years everything Nintendo could do wouldn't amount too much. You might as well start over.

And the Wii will keep selling nonetheless.

Okay, sometimes it's hard to tell hyperbole from bs on forums.

The Wii was fun while it lasted. This new console will help 3rd party development and hopefully Nintendo can grow strong bonds with 3rd party as well.

It's time to move up boys.

In a past newspaper interview, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo would only consider a successor to the Wii once developers could no longer offer surprises with the Wii.

It looks like that has happened! Following today's announcement of Wii's successor, Nintendo held a press conference in Osaka. Kyodo News reports that as reason for the followup system's release, Iwata said "It became difficult for developers to surprise customers with the current Wii."

Covering the same press conference, Bloomberg reports that Iwata insisted "We will offer something new for home game systems."

Whatever surprises Nintendo has in store for the system, 3D may not be one of them. Iwata also said that considering that 3D televisions have yet to spread widely, making 3D into a central point of the system would be difficult.

I blame Pachter, just mentioning him boosts my cravings for hype, poetry, lulz and bs at the same time!
