NSMB was huge when it came out, but the Wii would have sold at least 2.5 million that Dec anyway. The overall philosophy of the Wii was Mario this, Mario that, then plenty of Casual. Every year, Nintendo made sure plenty of titles had Mario in them and Wii fit, Wii Sports took care of the rest.

I am not sure, if you are really interested in understanding the Wii. It's not the names that made the Wii, it's what inside the games.

An Italian man?

If that were the answer, then the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube would have been resounding successes.

It's because Nintendo fans are not loyal.

I sure hope you're right and the wiimote doesn't go away. This "gamepad with a screen" sounds interesting, but it just won't be the same for pointing or broad gestures.

I still feel that few games have tapped the full potential of the wiimote. Many developers seem completely confused and intimidated even by simple pointer functionality. Maybe they'll be intimidated by the new Wii 2 controller and suddenly start working hard on games that effectively use the more familiar and comfortable wiimote.

I think It's way too early to say if Nintendo move is successfull.

Wii2 might not take off as fast as some people expect, PS4 and Xbox720 might not release before 2014 and then suddenly it's a case of  Nintendo failing to jumpstart the next gen and of gamers having to buy 2 differentNintendo consoles over a single gen ( which turns out not to be so cheap in the end.......).

Lets face it, Nintendo missed it's last 2 forecasts, who is to say they are going to make the next one...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

That comment is completely laughable.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

20 million gamecube says otherwise. how many of you have a PS2? how many?

Overall? The NES 6 is probably going to be the best console released yet, and really who would doubt otherwise? It will have the most performance, the most complete controller setup between supporting motion and touch interfaces as well as biometric if we go by that heart rate sensor thingie. It shouldn't lack for games at launch and within a year for all practical purposes it will have at least as good a library as any console as legacy titles over a year old aren't important on the market place and backwards compatibility will fill out the remainder of the gaps.

I'm inclined to agree.  They seem to be setting themselves up for a sales performance much like the PS2; the right system at the right time.

I agree with the OP, my next console for sure preordering as quick as possible. Also now that we know (confirmed) that they are already working on the wii2, I just hope they dont forget that we are still waiting for TLS, xenoblade, rithmh heaven (At least I do), pandoras tower & that kirby game...

As for 3rd party games, I dont really think the situation is going to change much, 3rd parties just dont even bother when it comes to nintendo systems (at least for the last three generations), so my bet is nintendo is going to try to get the bigger franchises to bring some ps3/360 gamers to the console, COD, GTA, assasins creed, but still, I think they have to focus on releasing more games from the own franchises (Fzero, star fox, pikmin, etc), sell the backward comp as a key feature, create some 3ds/wii2 interaction, and obviously attract people with their new controller...

If someone knows about this business in nintendo, so fear we must not...

i was waiting for this as squilliam never disappoints.

punked? hell Nintendo did more then just punked the HD twins cause if Nintnedo is still operating on a 5 yr vision by the time the 8th gens starts for Sony and MS; Nintendo will have a console to rivale Sonys and MS successors to the seventh gen which would put Nintendo 1 gen ahead of Sony and MS starting the 9th gen.

the only way for Sony and MS to counter this is by saying there next console will cover 3 gens as they won't be ready for the 10th gen war if they don't.

theres alot of twist in this thread!

huh?
