Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo just punked Sony and Microsoft

Who knows, maybe Sony and Microsoft are the ones doing the punking with this "10 year lifecycle" stuff. Wouldn't it be awesome if all 3 new consoles were at this years E3?

How I look at it Nintendo will release a console 1-2 years b4 Sony and MS that is slightly more powerful than the PS3 and 360.  3rd parties will be able to easily port titles yet wont take advantage of the slight power gain or new features. This because the user base wont be nearly as big as the PS3/360.  Nintendo will scarcely support the Wii once the new console releases.  Then Sony and MS will enjoy the extra years of profitability and will ready new consoles that are far more powerful and will have the time to usurp any new features if they are revolutionary.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

You do realize that this is the same mistake that MS made with the 360 right? Well, it's not the exact same mistake, but the effect is the same.

If they release a wii 2 as you describe it, it will completely cannibalize wii sales. The wii will be dead the day wii 2 comes out.

They mainly punked them in a sense that Sony and Microsoft are catering to upmarket customers. But neither of them will be able to move even further upmarket (800$ consoles? Longer development cycle for games?).

If Nintendo plays their cards right they will be better at motion gaming (just like you said) and "hardcore" enough to get a decent share of the upmarket customers which would screw Sony's and Microsoft's business. They weren't even able to recover their losses yet.

I don't get the purpose of that new Nintendo controller so I'll wait until e3 to go bonkers over anything. Things are getting more interesting, though.

both Microsoft and Sony can easily make a console for under $400 that is three to five times stronger than the PS3.

But for the time, it won't be much more powerful than the next Nintendo system, even if they sell at a loss again.

Actually, based off the rumors of what Nintendo's console will be like hardware wise, all Sony and Microsoft needs to do to top it with the PS4 and x720 is base their consoles around a IBM PPC7 or PPC8 processor, ATi/Nvidia's GPUs, and 2GBs of ram.

Since I doubt Nintendo will make their console more than asking price, they will be using the cheapest best hardware they can get, while Sony and Microsoft are willing to price their consoles higher than $300. Even starting price of $400 adds a very large amount of hardware power for all components.

"top it"=/="much more powerful"

if Wii 2/Stream uses 512mb of ram, and the PS4/x720 uses 2Gbs or even 1Gb of ram the two consoles will be vastly superior to Nintendo's console. The PS3 and 360 have a lot of potention still in the hardware, but they are limited by the ram.

What are you talking about?

MS cut off the XBox, it didn't die out because of 360.

The Wii will continue to sell like all other market leaders before it unless Nintendo stops production.

Where does it say the RAM will be that little?

The french site said they don't know the RAM but 512 mb is the minimum. So people just ran with that and started using as fact. You know how the internet is.

Considering how much they could afford to put on the 3DS, and that home console RAM isn't as much, I think even more RAM is very likely.
