Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo just punked Sony and Microsoft

The consul market feel so cornered right now.

Should launch with Wii Fit N6.   A nice upgreaded software of this killer app would launch this consul into space IMO.

Continued support of the Wii Board  every year.   (that would help get none gamers right back.)

You know,  I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo intentionally leaked the talk of the next console, including some [possibly] false info to get excitement running in time for E3, then throw a curveball by revealing a brand-new approach.

Well, maybe not brand-new like Wii's concept but new enough to be different. :)

Are we still waiting on the Wiimote with motion plus to release as one whole complete unit rather than as two separate parts?

No, it was released along with FlingSmash and as standalone late last year. Also included in the new Wii bundles that launched around the same time, but I am not 100 % sure if it's packed in with each and every Wii they ship nowadays.

How could squilliam be that far behind on that news?

They mainly punked them in a sense that Sony and Microsoft are catering to upmarket customers. But neither of them will be able to move even further upmarket (800$ consoles? Longer development cycle for games?).

If Nintendo plays their cards right they will be better at motion gaming (just like you said) and "hardcore" enough to get a decent share of the upmarket customers which would screw Sony's and Microsoft's business. They weren't even able to recover their losses yet.

I don't get the purpose of that new Nintendo controller so I'll wait until e3 to go bonkers over anything. Things are getting more interesting, though.

both Microsoft and Sony can easily make a console for under $400 that is three to five times stronger than the PS3.

If you don't really care, things easily go unnoticed.

Oh sorry, I thought this is a genuine question, not a rhethorical one.

It was the former.

But for the time, it won't be much more powerful than the next Nintendo system, even if they sell at a loss again.

Actually, based off the rumors of what Nintendo's console will be like hardware wise, all Sony and Microsoft needs to do to top it with the PS4 and x720 is base their consoles around a IBM PPC7 or PPC8 processor, ATi/Nvidia's GPUs, and 2GBs of ram.

Since I doubt Nintendo will make their console more than asking price, they will be using the cheapest best hardware they can get, while Sony and Microsoft are willing to price their consoles higher than $300. Even starting price of $400 adds a very large amount of hardware power for all components.

And then they have to decide whether to bundle Kinect/Move, just one Move or 2? Do we bundle nunchuks? Does MS make a wiimote? Does Move or Kinect get an upgrade? Will Sony's lollipop be backwards compatible?

And after all that, they'll still have to try and copy Nintendo again.

Sony - bundle Move/EyeToy, Navigator, and Dual Shock 3/4.

Microsoft - Kinect Plus?
