Okay, space onmy Xbox 360 HD is getting pretty scarce, so i asked for an external hard drive for Christmas (People have said they'd used them).  Today, I received a LaCie 500gb external hard drive from my parents, but when I hooked it up to my 360, it didn't detect it.  It was not listed in the 'memory' list.

My question is: can I download the driver for it onto a USB key and put it on my Xbox, or can I not use the HD on my system?

I dont think you can use external drives on the X360 :s

The 360 supports only FAT32 formatted hard drives, read only.

 same with the PS3

My HD is a FAT32 format. So if it's read-only, does that mean I can't save stuff onto it from a 360? I know the pS3 supports external drives for saving, doesn't it?

I believe so. I just read the 360 thing a few minutes ago when I was trying to find an answer to your question.

^^ you believe what? That I can't save stuff to it from a 360, or that the PS3 supports external saving devices?

The 360 as far I know only streams content off memory devices, but the PS3 in this instance can copy files to and from the memory decives as long as it's formated as FAT32 and not NTFS

The ps3 does everything.

^^Yes, the HD works on my PS3, but I'm completely fine for space on that (only 2 games for it) so basically my HD is redundant now :'(
