Free region, GBA backward, cheap, strong, easy to use. Probably the best version of the DS.

Well, I am not surprised to see it happen, and I thought it would have happened sooner. I expected this to take place when the DSi came out, due to enhanced functionality. I guess Nintendo wanted it to print more money before that happened!

It's probably too expensive to have DS Lite and DSi and DSiXL (and 3DS) in stores in a variety of colours.

Especially if DS Lite is selling in low quantities, which I suppose is the case, which is the reason of it being discontinued.

I work for Gamestop and can confirm this is true.

We've already been briefed and told DS Lite is officialy dead.  DSi will be getting a price cut to the Lite's price and becoming the mainline DS unit.

So goodbye DS lite you were a good system and a MONSTER in sales.

Is it really being dicontinued by Nintendo, or just not being stocked by major game stores anymore?

I assume there is still a large quantity of unsold units out there, where will they end up?
