obvious....

People can deny the inevitability of this all they want... digital distribution is a VERY attrractive proposition for developers and maufacturers alike.

and consumers. I know i see many people who say they will quit gaming if they can't buy discs anymore. That may be sooner than they think. The expense of physical media combined with high dev costs will force them to doit just on a cost savings. Not to mention no more hard to find games when they can just be downloaded.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. I don't support piracy but if developers don't allow me to buy physical copies of games then i'll will fall to the other side. Buying a file off of the internet is not owning anything to me.

go to your wallet and pull out all your money. guess what, that is excatly what downloading an file is like. You dont really own what backing that note or coin of yours but you still get the rewards of having that note.

I would also like to point out when you buy an box of an game, or an movie or an song etc. You do not OWN that song, game, movie etc. You own an cover and an disk with that media on it. This is the diference between media and say an car or an tv where once you buy it, you OWN it and can do what you want with it. Media is difference because you cant go an reproduce that media an sell it as your own, but with an car you can reband it as an Wagram Automobile an sell it.

Media is an whole different story when it comes to owning it, So cutting out the box and the disk doesn't affect you using that game, song or movie.

But if Movies, songs and games are to move all DD in the future, then the prices better go down.

I don't think it's the fact whether it's actually owning the piece of property or not. It's rather the fact that a lot of people like having the physical piece of property (Bluray discs are tough and are hard to damage) because of its reliability. With the digital format, there are many things that could go wrong that could make you end up losing your game. A company could take down the game off the digital service and you could lose everything on the hard drive, which would mean you can't download it again and can't play the game anymore, which is just one example. With the physical copy, you don't have to worry about anything like that happening.

you can't loose your blu ray disc?

You can back up your data multiple times if you wish. I have 3 steam back ups of my games just in case. Spread over two internal drives and one external. Not that i have ever had an issue anyways. In fact I have access to every game I have downloaded. I can't say that for disc based games I have bought.

Unless you're a very careless person, I would think it's hard to lose a Bluray disc or any disc-based game. I have never misplaced a game, although I'm sure there are people who have lost theirs before. I just believe that physical media has a longer lasting life than digital media.

I will say one thing about digital media; I do enjoy not having to get up and swap discs to play different games sometimes. One of the few problems with digital games is that the size of games won't go down as time passes, which might be a problem for some people who don't have extremely fast internet connections. Imagine trying to download  a 15-20GB game using a slower connection? With a physical disc, all you need to do is pop it in and begin playing immediately.

Thats very good! But just like some people are great at keeping physical things a lot of others are better at keeping data backed up. So My point was more that its a moot point. I would say they both have enugh lasting power to not be a problem.
