Not one chance in Hell. If the reveal of the Wii's successor is explosive enough they're going to be scrambling to lash together new hardware more frantically than any hardware makers in the history of the medium.

You honeslty expect the Wii's successor to be that powerful?  I think it'll be roughly on par with or slightly ahead of current consoles.  If so I highly doubt either MS or Sony will be in any rush to make a new console.

He means In terms of sales, genius

Also, winning consoles have never been the most powerful

I still say late 2012 like Nintendo, or late 2013 at the absolute longest and most likely. They aren't going to give Nintendo 2 full years without any competition.

Maybe they dont believe this new Nintendo console is actually the start of the next Gen.  If the rumors are true that its on par/slightly better than the 360 and PS3 than I would agree with that as well.  They may feel that the PS3 and 360 is enough competition for the new Nintendo console.

They weren't competition for the Wii (Wii slaughtered them), why would they be competition for the next console?

They werent competition for the Wii because they were going after different demographics, but if the rumors of the new console are to be believed than it seems that Nintendo is trying to make a console very similar whats available in the HD twins.  And they would be competition because they would be going after than same demographic he HD twins are,  they will just be quite a few million consoles behind.

So, the Wii is gonna be the Dreamcast? It's like a half breed stuck between generations, more powerful than the PS1, but less powerful than the PS2/Gamecube an Xbox. This isn't good news for Nintendo, they are probably better off waiting a little longer if this is all true, they don't need a Dreamcast situation of Third Party developers sticking to the old platforms, while the Wii continues to get less resources and time because it's the only console thats moved on.

2014 is longer than I'd originally hoped, I'd rather a 2013 release, an extra two years with my current consoles would be fine but I think I'd reach my limit if I had to wait until 2014.

Being less powerful didn't hurt the Wii

It didnt?  How is that explosive 3rd party game selection on the Wii?

Thats not what he meant genius,  even if Nintendos next console happens to sell extremely well it wont matter if the specs are only on par with what the 360 and PS3 are. Sony and Microsoft can sit and wait because they wont miss out on any games that are created because their sysem cant handle it.

"if the rumors of the new console are to be believed  "

That's where your argument falls apart, the rumors are almost certainly bs

How are those sales on the PS3 and 360?  Wii outsold them by a huge margin, without strong 3rd party support, proving that third party doesn't really matter

You are right, Nintendo probably couldnt make a console on par with the PS3 or 360

I'm surprised you guys think the Wii is only going to be on par with PS3/360.  The Wii was an aberation in Nintendo's overall gameplan.  Nintendo definitely isn't going to be as powerful as 360-2 and PS4, but the 360 is already almost 6 years old.  Nintendo should easily be able to surpass the 360s power by 2-5 times and still maintain innovation and profitability.

As for 2014 rumors, they simply make no sense.  360 sales are tanking fast, even with Kinect.  360 definitely won't be able to keep momentum for 3 more years.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Not if Nintendo reveals something that the other companies can't match, took them years to release the Move and Kinect, and even then it didn't really stop the Wii

Not to mention Sony and MS can't match Nintendo games, which are the highest selling games ever

The sales on the PS3 and 360 are fine,  they are higher than any other 2nd and 3rd place console ever,  plus the Wii is getting outsold right now isnt it?
