Forums - General Discussion - Sony, maker's of defective products!

My PS1 definitely didn't last as long as I'd like it too either, although that might have had something to do with poor care, my foolish young self. On the other hand my PS2 works dandy, although it spontanously stops being able to play DVD's, then suddenly without any reason starts working again later.

SNES still works like a charm, even if half my games don't.  I don't know about Gamecube or the handhelds, but on that fact alone the SNES gets my vote as most reliable.

Wow some people claim they never had problems with thier NES shit i had to blow in that thing so many times it was crasy and thats when it was new...The SNES didn't give that much of a problem still needed blown in once in awhile ...My Genisis oh how i Loved that machine NEVER gave me any problems..Te Saturn however sucked I never was able to find a Sega manufactured Memory Cartridge and my 3rd party one kept breaking (had to resort to blowing it to..till it craped out 3times)...Hell my N64 I didn't have to blow it Blew enough on its own(never really played it that much)then my Playstation was as reliable as could be my inlaws still use my PS1 and its like 12 years old and I played that more than anything before it....Then there was the Dreamcast....I sure would have liked to see how long it could have lasted but after Shenmue It died (not a hardware problem)My PS2 I played the crap outta this thing ...still do this was it my last console as a single male without Kids.I got it on launch day and it lasted about 4 years before it Craped out on me I exchanged it for a new one and been using that one with no problems.Never had an X-box but hell they only lasted as long as my 1st PS2 so..Can't really tell if they woulda lasted longer..My Game cube never saw enough action to say one way or another(still works though). The PS3 i have seems to be fine too not enough time gone by to say one way or the other..But i never had any Problems with Sony Equipment...I have a Stereo thats about 7 years old an old Discman that still works but I never really bought a TV from Sony..I stick With Phillips/Magnavox...never let me down Until recently I just bought a HD 1080 Vizio...hoping that works out.All in all I have hade good luck with consoles. Kinda wierd that the guy that posted Sony make defective Stuff already owns a PS3...collecting dust or otherwise..And he has resistance but doesn't like FPS?Um.. dude if you don't like somethin maybe you shouldn't buy it?

Ok, I have read a lot of people's input on various systems. When I was younger i collected all systems. I remember anticipating the original launch of the saturn and the Playstation. I reserved both. I unfortunately was one of the first 50,000. As you may remember the first 50,000 would burn out. I played mine for about 4 hours and it overheated and was useless.

No problem right? Next came the Playstation 2(keep in mind I own all sytems)I was excited playing it. I loved the Gamecube as well. After 6 months of the Playstation 2 , the motor went out.....sound familiar to anyone? Hey i got an idea, since you have a library of games , why not buy another Playstation 2???Nope not me. My brother's Playstation 2 had a motor that went out as well after a year and a half. His sony TV and my Sony Stero conked out as well. I read threads about people on here that are biased. I am not, I just have cold feet about purchasing anything Sony. My PS3 is collecting dust. regardless what people think, I enjoy my Wii. Think about this, how many of you have had your Sega's and Nintendos conk out??? I think those two were the best rivals, after all they always out did each other for games. Microsoft got into the market for money, not games. Sony, well lets take a look shall we??? Nintendo/Sony created the Playstation. Period?? didnt know that?

The Playstation was to be an add-on to the SNES follow the link http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=279

So, anyone that has read this and is a Sony fan, is a closet nintendo fan, just scared to come out!

ONCE AGAIN NOT BIASED!!!!!!!   PS Resistance is good but there are too many first person shooters being developed.

Yea I remember that when it was happening Nintendo droped the ball bad on that one ..they Made themselves the biggest rival ever.I gave an Huge outside company a glimpse and idea how to compete with in the Game industry. If it wasn't for Nintendo's huge 1st party titles and the Gameboy they would have been dead just like Sega..Lastly Does anyone ever wonder why you never had to blow into an Atari game to get it to work?but had to blow a Nintendo game cartrige ever single time?just wanted to add if you like Games didn't at some time you "HAVE"to have loved the Nintendo?I guess some kids don't know about when nintendo was it..the only ones willing to risk developing a game system after the Atari death

I have had plenty of problems with almost all console brands, however have had the most difficulty with Sony's

Nintendo: NES - Just the blowing thing however sometimes that won't fix it, for the first 10 years though it worked without a hitch.

Microsoft: Xbox 360 - Red lights of death appeared one day and it wouldn't work however Microsoft Australia paid for postage of it to them fixed it and sent it back no charge.

Sony: PS1 (slim) - We were late adopters of the PS1 as we always owned Nintendo consoles previously, however the day we got home it was dead and never worked. The shop replaced it and it worked for another 3 years and broke.
PS2 - The DVD drive stopped openning on the first one we had, The second one constantly overheated and eventually just died and our third one (slim) is working ok!
PSP - I believe dead pixels are counted under "defective product" despite what Sony says, my first PSP had 4 dead pixels, it was replaced and i received one with 2 dead pixels. Now i have never had any other problems with any other handheld/monitor with dead pixels (gameboy, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, both DS and DS lite).

Never owned a Sega console

OK, so lets get this right. You had functionality problems with both your PS1 and 2 and so did a family member of yours at the same time. All the Sony electronics you bought like TVs and stereos etc all crapped out... so the logical thing for you to do would be to go out a buy a PS3? ... at launch? ... and then complain about a company making shoddy products when you keep buying their products over and over again? Wow, are you like constantly high or are you some employee from one of Sony's competitors doing what you all do best - troll the hell out of any and all gaming forums spewing as much bogus lies as possible in Sony's direction. lol wow, the ignorance of it all is mistifying lol.

And what was the point of this thread?

The whole thread is so stupid, specially the last part... "a sony fan is a closet nintendo fan"

I really thought "what the fuck" when i read that sentence.

I had a launch PS2, and it worked perfect for about 5 years, then I had to clean it once. It still works perfect at it's new owners house. (after cleaning it)

I have a PS3, and I havent had a problem out of it.

My PSP hasnt had a problem either.

Really other than that, I dont have anything sony.

Sony stuff is just too expensive for my taste. My TV is a samsung, wich is made in partnership with Sony, so it could be called a sony I guess.

I also swear by Sony Cell phones. They are sturdy, well built, and work very well. I am useing a 4 year old sony cell phone that was free with contract (4 years ago) over a new 100$ phone with contract. (I went to my antique phone over it, becuase it sucked so much)

My wife has a sony phone, and the phone I 'want' is also a sony phone.
(this is because I have never had a problem with sony phones, they are damn near perfect, they are extremely well built, and have great sound quality, they are known worldwide for their speaker-phone, and the camera in them is second to none)

I think sony stuff is worth what you pay. You are very likely to know someone who had a problem with a PS2. 120million were sold worldwide, and millions are 6 years old.

Your just as likely to know someone who has smoked a 360. (I actually do not know anyone who lost their PS2 unless they destroyed it themselves, and I do know someone who lost a 360)

Most PS1s that had problems just had to be on the side or flipped and they worked fine.  That's a lot less annoying than the NES and SNES blowing and praying issue (as well as other methods described).  I can't say I ever had problems with Sega except lack of 3rd party support and inferior first party games compared to Nintendo (I loved Sonic, though).   PS2 I used to get disc read errors but if you read the manual or looked online you found out there was an auto-diagnostic feature that was just an option you could go to when you looked at the PS2 menu after it loaded.  That fixed mine until it got hit by lightning.

As for PS3, I have not had a problem at all so far, and there is only one small patch that have a serious problem...a whining noise.  They still work, just annoying, and again, that's a small batch.

Everyone knows that Nintendo was working with Sony on a Play Station but Nintendo backed out and ended up giving away the console crown to Sony.  Sucks for them.  10 years to make a comebacke, we'll see if they complete it.  I have heard of no problems with Wii's so far, btw.  The 360 was a joke, worse than PS1 and PS2 as far as hardware problems.

Hmm...

I have had only two sony products break on me that I can remember. They were two 20" t.v's. They did however last 10-12 years. One just died one day and the other identical tv broke after it fell off my bed. I have/had a discman, LCD Monitor, lcd tv, two playstations(one launch), a playstation 2(launch), PSP, PS3, Sony speakers, a sony car cd player, a 5 disc home cd player, a camera, and an amp that I can remember. All still work or worked perfectly while I had them. I did have to replace a PS2 controller after 5 years or so.

I have had very little trouble with Sony systems. As I have mentioned before in another thread similar to this. My PS1 started to play up after 3 years and had to tilt it on a 45 degree angle for it to read the disk. Fair enough this isn't great, but the amount of abuse the PS1 got when playing Red Alert in a link up hours on end it was expected. Considering the amount of times the system was nudged/knocked and dirt collecting in the open top CD tray I'm suprised it still plays at all.

The PS2 has been a LOT better for me, only just in the last 6 months it has stopped reading blue discs and I have owned the system since September 2001, both me and my brother have played on it, we still play on it now. I also have a 200GB Hard Drive in my PS2 (Western Digital) that I pinched from a friend. I have only needed to blow the system out 3 times since I have owned it with a can of air duster when the grill at the front starts to get clogged.

A year ago my brother got his 360 as the next system in the house, he had to replace that in the first 4 months due to 3 red lights. After a replacement a few games were played on it, now it sits doing nothing for the last 3 weeks as the PS2 is the system being played on.

I have a Sony CD/Radio player that I have used for the last 6 years, covered in dust but is played everyday. Nothing wrong with it despite the fact there is a load of dust/muck in the top loading CD tray. The model is CFD-V177L(Discontinued). I must admit there are other brands in the house other than Sony. But all those people who have owned Sony products and have had problems with them have either been VERY UNLUCKY or just don't look after your products very well.

This is the reason why I prefer Sony products to others because I have had few problems with them. Simple as that. As for Nintendo, well we have a NES in the house, but the cart port is knackerd. The MSII I have owned for a similar amount of time can be a bit troublesome when putting carts in. It doesn't like carts pushed all the way in, but will play them when pushed 2/3 in!
