Forums - Sales - Will Wii offer more of what the Ps2 did or more of the DS?

Let's admit it, a click on the DS on gamerankings shows that there are less top ranked games for the system than on the GBA and even less of them are what you would consider "full hardcore" games.

High sales for the PS2 resulted in the biggest and best library since the SNES full of hardcore, full length games. On the DS we see a glimmer of that though casual games are more dominant on the system.

Will wii offer a PS2 like library on the back of staggering sales with a large selection of hardcore games or a more DS-ish library consisting primarily of short, easy pick and play games and less serious, non MGS2-ooie (ll) games?

anyway i hope it will be a combination

^ I have to agree with Yojimbo

Wii might outsell PS2 LTD- But it will never have the balance that PS2 did as far as Hardcore and Casual games. I see the we out doing the PS2 by a long shot on the Casual side and getting a good enough quantity of Core games to make them by it.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Wii will be better than PS2, already is in some regards

Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

In my opinion, there is no platform that has ever existed where reviewers have shown such a disconnect with what gamers like/want than the Nintendo DS. I personally expect the Wii to end up a lot like the Nintendo DS, there will be dozens of amazing and original games which get lower grades because they are not a generic shooter involving space marines in bumpy armor.

PS2 is full of shooters?

Neither. First, I disagree with your views on DS game sales. The DS is an enigma the likes of which we haven't seen before in gaming. It is finding the perfect balance between the two types. it's got the shooters and the long Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts RPGs, as well as the Brain Age's and the Clubhouse Games'. I think that, since it's appealing so much to the asual market, the casual games are going to sell more copies. But that doesn't mean others aren't doing as well as they normally would with the hardcore crowd.

The Wii will find a balance between PS2 and DS-style libraries, in my opinion. In the public eye, it is the best for casuals, and that is why it is selling that type of game so well. but they are starting to get better hardcore support, and it is doing well with it (even outside of just Capcom and Ubisoft's games). Medal of Honour Heroes 2 is selling respectably, and TP support in this area seems to be increasing slowly.
