Forums - Gaming - Valve Sabotaging 360 Version Of Portal?

There's no massive difference but the PS3 version clearly has better AA and perhaps supeior lighting and SSAO which I find odd considering Portal 2 hardly looks like its a really taxing game. We've seen demos not always been representative of the final release so let's hope it's the case. One thing though is that these screenshots tell us nothing about performance.

Valve is not known for graphical prowess; but they clearly worked harder on the PS3 version. Maybe to make up for Orange Box and neglecting the PS3 the past few years? Sabotage may not be correct; perhaps they neglected to place the effort into the Xbox version as well. I do not know why they would do this though, the only ones this really affects is the consumer.

Really? Source engine was way ahead of it's time. Also just to remind everyone OB was not ported by Valve.

It seems more the case that they finally put in the effort to optimize the source engine for the PS3 , whether this was helped by ex ND employees is debatable , if my recollection is correct they weren't  hired 2010 but 3 years earlier just that their employment  was noted in 2010 they where at ND Pre-uncharted , Why the turn around?  just look at the PS3's position then and now coupled with MS's online policy's and Sony being amicable to a Steam/ PSN mix.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

So what games released by Valve were hailed for their graphics? I really do not recall any. I think most people know OB was not ported by Valve, but it is still their game.

Half life 2 was the best looking game at its time. No game was even close. BUT this was way back in 2004.

The Lens of Truth comparaison don't show much of a difference between the PS3 version and the 360 version. Nothing to worry I say.

Nothing to worry about, in that the game will likely play the same, but the PS3 version still looks noticeably better in many ways. Kinda like the differences between Red Dead Redemption on 360 and PS3, but in reverse: game was great on both, but the 360 version looked nicer.

On that, were Valve helped with their PS3 version, as it's pretty rare to see a dev get it right on PS3 for the first time?

Valve hired some Naughty Dog employees back in 2010 and they tweaked the engine to be PS3 compatible. Must be one of the reasons why the PS3 version looks better a multiplatform is finally using the PS3 assets intelligently.

EDIT: Unless, of course, they screw up on performance in some way.

Hold on this is really true? You mean temporarily, or actually that ND employees left ND to join Valve?

That's not true. I believe, Far Cry and Doom 3 were also released in 2004. Anyway, even if we considered Half-Life 2, that was 7 years ago. I am talking about the present or recent years.

Actually, not temporarily. As in now they are ex-ND employees working for Valve.
