I have know that most of the last games we played were vanilla without them being open. I know I should have asked hat before it started but I forgot to since I was hoping I might get an answer even now though I asked anyway.

Why shouldn't hephs responce tell me something he doesn't think it's vanilla. In adition to what else he said I think he'd have a reason to. As for hat if he was just hosting another vanilla game I don't think he'd be afraid to say so. Since he said nothing on top of hephs answer I have a feeling it's not vanilla.

Our general definition of "vanilla" has seemed to stretch a bit beyond the cop doctor variety, but that is besides the point.

hat(or any host) shouldn't answer that question now that the game is underway for a couple of reasons: It tells scum whether or not there's only a cop and doctor(see above however) to worry about and they can't fakeclaim other more exotic roles. Likewise, it tells townies whether or not that they only have to scrutinize claims of cop and doctor, and can hang anyone else on the spot.

As for Heph, you'll just have to try to think that one out.

sorry I thought it was obvious since vett hadn't posted at all in here yet and when he came on saw the vote on him and said why.

That doesn't make the reason for the vote obvious though, because it was the votee's explanation for the vote, which could very well be wrong. Case in point, prof's thought for why I voted him(and also TOS's intial guess) was incorrect.

Oh, well that was very much not obvious, to me at least.

My vote on prof was to cause some discussion, and I'm pretty satisfied with what I got from it. Just about anyone would've done fine, but prof was chosen specifically for reasons I still don't care to share. However, since I have no read on him either way it is time for:

I really wanted to argue against your vote to create some discussion and discover some "siding" etc etc, but then I immediately remembered my promise of no gambits.

That may have been interesting, but I'm glad you're sticking to the promise.

This feels like you already got a very specific target, so I pretty much wonder who it could be.

I'm not sure why you got that impression, nor do I like the tone of it. Nobody so far has said enough to stand out as scum,(or even more scummy than the rest) except for ABC's scumtells, but as I mentioned I have the feeling he is town.

So hopefully there will be more content while I'm at work, plus I'll do a thorough reread.

Ah the eternal first day dilema, it seems it is now Linkz's turn to face it.

Not participate much to avoid exposure but be suspected of lurking or participate actively and be suspected of dancing arround the questions?

In any case, what struck me more is that he indeed dances quite a lot... which in itself isn't very scumy, unless it is on the specific subject of his belonging to the town. He is the type of player who takes honor in decieving with a cunning mind rather than blatant lies, such as this:

So, I'm kind of stuck in this "one of them is scum" thought process, and I'm trying my hardest to ignore that because those don't tend to end well.

Indeed they don't, and if Heph is town then it certainly wouldn't this time either. I'm leaving out the obvious, since it's obvious.

How to imply you are town without actually saying it? it's obvious.

prof was confused because you were confusing, and in fact have now refused to say your reasons. With my vote on vett since he hadn't said ANYTHING at the time I voted for him and in fact was the only player who hadn't said anything.

Also I've not taken 10 posts to not explain my vote :P

so... people are talking of voting on lurkers... yet i hardly see who you (all who said they might vote on this) believe currently qualifies as one.

actually the stretching of the definition is probably the main point. If there is no agreed on definition for vanilla game, then my question has many interpretations.

For me I was thinking of it as either only roles from the basic section , or most people are town with no night roles. But that's a broder than what most here would say. Or several flavors at heph would say.

Unless Day One lasts a ridiculously long time, I don't believe in lynching lurkers on Day One. I think we can spot people who don't contribute and then see if they keep on being discreet on Day Two but since Day one is so different from all other days, I understand some people not posting a lot (no information to go on, fear of posts being picked apart by other players).

Signature goes here!

There virtually is no information to go on. The only person that does seem a tad suspicious to me is the main contributor, Linkz. Besides that the Portal2 joke can be dissceted in similar fashion that mine and radish's a few games back, after all we did deny there was any relevance between the joke, but after Radish flipped scum it was a bit of a lost cause . I'll keep it in mind for later encase one of them does flip scum, then we're looking at a possible candidate.
