Many people have the two consoles but buy their multiplatform on 360 because it is their main console... So I can see these people buying Portal 2 on PS3.

Nah, I don't see that TBH. IF the 360 is their main platform their going to want to play coop with their friends on 360, get achievements, etc. Buying it on PS3 to get it on PC if you mainly game on 360 doesn't make sense to me.
What I see happening is that:
a) this could really help win over PS3 owners who say Valve in a negative light before - I think Valve have surely set the bar in bending over backwards to make this title and their brand appealing to PS3 owners
b) a large percentage of PS3/PC owners will get it on PS3 rather than just PC. I'm in this camp and most of my PC gaming friends are taking the same route. This is where the boost will be for the title I think
c) 360 focused gamers (even those with PS3) will get it on 360. I mean a few will be swayed, sure, but not enough to really notice I suspect.
Just my view mind. I could be wrong and we'll soon know I guess. But I feel Valve have been canny here and know they will do okay on 360 but - as with Bulletstorm - the risk is being ignored on PS3 and I believe their play is to make the title attractive to PS3 owners due to the lure of Steamworks, cross platform play and ideally the definitive console version plus get a bunch of people who'd buy it on PC to get it on PS3 to elevate the PS3 numbers by basically giving them the title on PC as well.
I also feel Valve are hopping for enough success on PS3 to give MS a push to allow Steamworks on 360 - but I think that's not going to happen. If Valve really want to push Steamworks and cross platform ownership then at this moment the PS3/PSN is the far better platform for them that 360/LIve and I don't think MS will be too concerned if this means Valve give PS3 more love than 360 going forward hence why I don't think they'll shift on allowing Steamworks on 360.
