Forums - Sony - Get Socom 4, and get into the Resistance 3 Beta!!

Socom 4 is such a huge letdown, not even a resistance beta makes the purchase worth it.  Im just extremely peeved at the fact that zipper went a completely different direction than what I and many had hoped.  Dissappointing to say the least, I was optimistic even after some gameplay vids but the beta destroyed that optimism.  At least portal 2 is right around the corner!!

what direction would you have wanted Zipper to take it? an exact replica of Socom 2?

No, but maybe a more direct sequel rather than what seems to be a spinoff that shouldve been named as such.  An exact replica of socom 2 would be an improvement in my eyes however, so just because my opinion doesnt sit well with you doesnt mean you need to be getting all defensive, look around dude im not the only one.  Im not saying that this game isnt going to be good, Im just dissappointed because I had expectations going in which is always a bad idea especially when this is the first supposed true socom game this gen.  The game just doesnt feel like a socom game, im guessing you never bothered to play the first 3 (well first 2 for that matter) so im not quite sure how your comment is even justified.

I'm not trying to be defensive. I did play the first three Socom games that were released on the PS2. The game doesn't feel like the Socom games of old because the shooters that have proven to be successfull today [by selling well] have changed [using things like cover, regenerative health, etc...]. How big is the market these days for a game in the mold of the older Socom titles? (those who complain about how socom has changed on the Zipper forums doesn't necessarilly represent a large audience)

So what you're saying is every game should become a call of duty clone just so they sell more right. If people want to play call of duty they will play call of duty.

I'm saying that's what Zipper seems to be doing, which is copying elements from popular shooters such as COD. I'm neither condemning or condoning such actions by developers. If Socom 4 isn't the game you wished it was, then find an alternative elsewhere

Good points, I get that they have to sell a game and make it appealing to a larger audience, but on the other hand they always risk alienating a certain fanbase and for once I am apart of the minority that would love to see a socom 2 remake instead of what we have now.  Usually I am willing to accept these changes and just go with the flow, but for some reason this one just stings.  I cant seem to shake this feeling which has never happened to me before, only with music and certain bands changing drastically but thats a whole nother subject.
