I've been saying this all last year, but people called my a fanboy/hater/crazy/whatever. Now suddenly I can buy a used Kienct for $99, and amazon is sending me emails for a $50 giftcard if I buy Kinect. The fall is already starting, as expected.

It's a simple concept. The hardware needs games in order to keep selling, even a hardware add on like Kinect, because GAMES are its primary purpose. If it doesn't get the games, there is no longer a reason to buy the hardware. Kinect Sports and Dance Central can only do so much. Even the phenomenal success NSMB Wii could only carry Wii for about a year.

That's basically what I was saying most of last year.  Kinect didn't have a Wii Sports/Fit-caliber release to keep sales afloat for more than several months.

It'll still do fairly well, but it needs new software, and I don't see much in its upcoming line up that will reinvigorate sales significantly.

IMVHO Kinect in America is even selling better than expected, considering the lack of games, as it still outsells Balance Board. Its paltry library looks like it's enough to at least keep it alive there.

OTOH in EMEAA it's sinking, despite being currently advertised again on TV and regularly discounted from 149€ to 99€ at most stores. And the ads could even make things worse, as they are horrible, they show even more dramatically than seeing it at demo kiosks, how shallow and on-rails some minigames are, they look like bad copies of bad Nintendo ads for bad copies of good Nintendo games. So, despite lacking new games too, but having a better game included, Balance Board is outselling it again here.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

Dude balance board has like one game and has been on the market for 3 years, Kinect really should be outselling it.

Kinect still has a chance and looking like it could be a FAD

The Wii pushed through and overcame the term Fad, but Kinect is not yet old enough to be considered not a fad

So glad ps3 is finally closing weekly gap in US.. i am so sick of everyone having 360ies over Ps3 over here -_-

As I said over a 1/2 dozen times now. The Wii and XBox 360 don't do much in the summer, because more casual gamers are attached to these systems then the PS3. Casual shoppers do not purchase as much gamers/hardware during the summer as hardcore gamers do. Now when Oct - Dec rolls around , and the casual shoppers appear, that when the XBox 360 & Wii come out to party. It has happened like this over the last 4 years and the trend isn't going to change, except when a price cut happens in the summer. XBox 360 had an even bigger surge last year due to Kinect (a casual add-on device). PS3 always closes the gap in the summer though. Then in the winter the Wii and 360 explode and surge ahead by another million or so. This year a lot will depend on the price cuts and who announces theirs first. Remember when the PS3 Slim got released with a lower price it dominated the holidays mostly, except for the Wii. This year all 3 systems are suppose to get price cuts, so we'll see what happens.

thats actually a really good point, i never really thought of that

Yup, but this really only holds true when there aren't any price cuts. Any price cut during the summer or holiday will throw the numbers all out of whack. It's anybody's game when all 3 consoles do a price cut around the same time. It'll probably come down to the games and what people want the most.

Another Wii would be a disappointment? What?!? Did you actually say that? lol!! Sony wishes they had Wii's numbers. Microsoft is satisfied with their numbers because 1) They surpassed the might Sony Playstation. 2) They completely outsold the original XBox by a large margin (even doubling Japan sales). 3) They are completely out of debt that the original XBox got them in.

As for DS numbers. I think the U.S. sales alone will stay above 200K for the rest of the year, as long as Nintendo keep bringing out 'must buy' exclusive titles. With Zelda, StarFox, Kid Icarus.

1) MS intention was never to be second. Second is the first of the losers according to some MS spokesperson I can't recall.

They wanted to be first and could have been if not for the unexpected success of the wii. Saying that MS is happy with beating Sony is like saying a swimmer is contented to finish the olympic final in seventh place, happy because the former champ finished eighth.

3) The x360 has been succesful but to wipe out $4b (or whatever) in debt and at the same time cover it's own R&D, current advertising, promotions and other current operations cost that runs into hundreds of millions a year obviously means that the x360 has so far made $??bn profit so far. Look at the figures man. There are there to look at.

You also think the US alone will stay above 200K DS for the rest of the year. I would say this is most likely WW. During the holidays I think some major records will be broken with the 3DS though.

But let's see. That's the beauty of time, you can just wait and see.

Every company wants to be first, especially Sony. lol!! If you think Microsoft isn't happy with their progess in the gaming industry, you're nuts. They are very happy, even more so with how Kinect performed last year. Also, I never said Microsoft was happy being in 2nd place. But they are still satisfied with the numbers they have posted for the XBox 360. They can't be #1 unless them can dominate 2 out of the 3 markets, or at least increase their sales in Japan by 300% or more. There's a big difference between 2nd and 7th. Sony went from 1st to 3rd, so they can't be too happy.

great start by 3DS in America, software sales looks much better here than EMEAA and Japan too

Yeah.. the 3DS in U.S. was like 3x's greater then in EMEA. I was surprised at how many 3DS titles there are in the Top 30 on the list. That's insane. 3DS leads the world, which is no surprise. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Might stay like this until the end of the year when Gears of War 3 or Unchart 3 bundles get released.

Wait, in the thread of Media Create many are calling flop because 3DS as fallen under PSP, let's not speak too early, maybe PS3 in one week will outsell it and we all know what it means...failure.[/sarcasm]

Really, great opening, and let's remember that Nintendo's strategy is not to sell gazillions on D1 but to sell long term like DS did...another Wii would be a disappointment, if 3DS sells software for everyone the games will come out every week and it will sell even more.

Yeah everyone would want a console unable to sell games...Wii has had incredible numbers for hardware and for some software; but it's dead after three years for gamers (look at the sales of games, especially in Japan)...this is why Nintendo DON'T want another Wii, they want a DS; which sells well for years and years, selling software for every company.

Dead!?!? Have you even looked at the software charts for the last 2-3 months? Wii has been above the PS3 and even the XBox 360 several times over the past 3 months in software sales. The only place it isn't doing that great is in Japan, but it's killing the competition everywhere else. Nintendo wants a better Wii. One with HD graphics, better online, 3D, more unique controls, more DD content and much better accessories. Even in the Wii slowest time, it's still keeping up with the competition overall.

Who believes GT5 sold only 4,264 this week? I don't... the next PD update will be interesting.

I don't think its in the realm of impossability.

OT: Look at Halo Reach go!! I'm loving it! Now if only EMEAA could do a bit more Halo lovin.

Homefront is doing crazy good, and Crysis 2 is doing quite well too.

KZ3 continues to have a strong showing in Americas (not so much in EMEAA)

Even if it's undertracked, it's probably only by a few 100 units. I doubt it's sold twice that amount. The only place it has any real activity is in the EMEA region where they bow to it. lol!!

I think he meant 3DS when he mentioned zelda, starfox and kid icarus.

Yup, i meant 3DS. I thought that was pretty obvious though.

kinect is doing pretty bad.   amazon has already dropped the price on kinect and is offering $25 gift cards with purchase.  kinect is not going to be the savior of the 360  the way they hope

thanks man

it's Rank 8 now

http://www.amazon.com/Kinect-Sensor-Adventures-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA298/ref=zg_bs_videogames_8

btw,you know MJ coming next week right

Wow... it's still ranked as high as 8th during the slowest time of the gaming season. That's pretty good. What is the PS3, Wii and XBox 360 ranked?

I think you're the one who can't see right...the charts show that in the last two years Wii wasn't able to sell not Nintendo-made games, with few exceptions (Epic Mickey and Just Dance mainly). Sure, the line up wasn't that great, but this means nothing, since Wii is the leading console, with 30 m of advantage and can just barely sell more software than the PS3, even counting 250k bundled with the console.

Please note that I'm saying this but the same Iwata said that the don't want another Wii situation, with discontinued periods of launch due to lack of third parties, caused by their impossibility of selling (while on some cases is just their fault, games like LKS, NMH, RS2, Madworld and others deserved more sales) well. 3DS is showing this,

Wii for Nintendo is still a viable way (even if Galaxy seels 6m instead of 9 they still make profits), but what about Game Cube? It sold its 20 m just because of Nintendo games, they don't want to prepare the launch of a console with only their support, and 3DS is showing this (while Wii is the perfect example of an abandoned console).

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)
