So by asking for an IP address they are labeling you as a criminal? Dude you need to take a chill pill.

Give me one good reason why they wanted those IP addresses.

Give me one reason why you should care about it? Every website you access has your IP address. So what? VGChartz has it. What have they done wrong with your IP that has you so pissed at them? If you answer that then I may fall to your side.

I can't believe people here hope that Sony actually wins this battle. I'm not condoning Anon's actions but Sony is clearly in the wrong as well. They're trying to fuck over their consumer base, for crying out loud. How can anyone get behind that?

Pretty much everyone involved here is being a total fuckwit. Anon for attacking innocent PSN users/Sony employees, Sony for being such cockgobblers and reaching FAR beyond what should be their scope of legal action (if there is a right to legal action here at all), and that assclown judge for letting it all go down.

i like my walled garden of a gaming device, so much so in fact that am willing to pay the premium price that goes along with console gaming compared to PC gaming just to have the hackers and modders out of my gaming experience.

if i want to live in a gated community who the *bleep* are you or anyone else to come in an vandalize my experience?  sony isn't the one fucking over the consumer base for consoles -- geohot is.

Give me one good reason why they wanted those IP addresses that doesn't involve treating their customer base like criminals and punishing them in some form for visiting the website.

It's to prove that Geohot distributed his hack massively, particularily in the state of California, where copyright laws are far stricter.

It's getting a little on the silly side. I think it's about a good time to let Sony and Mr Hotz settle it without other people speaking their minds or getting in the way.

Yet at the end of it I don't think anything will change. Games will still be made and we will still own our consoles. Piracy will still occur and people will call it stealing.

If anything will change it will be that Sony in the next generation of consoles, will charge for online gaming. I think it's about time all companies did in exchange for lowering the cost of games (if I don't want to play the online part of a game, I pay less).

Hmm, pie.

Apparently the difference between voluntarily offering up information and that information being given to another party without consent means nothing to you.

And who are you to tell someone else what they can or cannot do with a device they paid money for, just like you did?

Sigh, whatever. It doesn't matter anyway. Sony is going to lose this in a big, bad way after the iPhone jailbreak ruling and that's a good thing for consumers. That some of you actually like the fact that mega-corporations try to tell you what you can or cannot do with something you paid money for is baffling to me.

You can do whatever you please with the hardware you get, but not the software that you get with it, which is LICENCED to you. The same holds true for Windows and MacOS (the former is a far freer environment though), but I don't see any bitching about that fact like I do here.

I don't mind Sony telling me what I can and can't do with my PS3 as long as my gaming experience remains unhindered. So far, only the hackers and CFW rats did anything to damage it.

Best do your research and then post, instead of being proven wrong and then shrugging it off with even more wrongs.

And this differs from the iPhone how, exactly?

The DMCA has been fucking over consumers for what, 12-14 years now? It's a good thing for us if it's de-fanged.

Unlike the iPhone, this compromises legit users.
