Earlier this month, Microsoft asked Xbox 360 owners to register for an all-new beta program in which several thousand registrants would early access to the upcoming Xbox 360 system update. The biggest of the system update will be the new functionality of utilizing a new disc format, which has been revealed to be a larger DVD that shall contain an extra 1GB of data, increase security, and make loading faster. If you registered for the beta program, emails will be going out later this afternoon, but you can skip that step and find out if you have been chosen by simply checking your status here. If you have been accepted, you’ll notice a ‘Quit’ option under ‘Actions’ menu. To find out whether you’ll be testing the new disc format or just be getting access to the online beta, you can find that out by going here. If the page doesn’t load properly initially, reload and it should work fine the second time if you have been approved for the beta test.
