NGE is one of my fave anime series ever. I'm usually not keen on remakes as there is a reason I really like something to begin with plus it's milking the franchise. But I have heard this is meant to be really good so I may buy it.

A bit late to the party, but the rebuild has shown already to far surpass the original TV series.

Though I found the original quite awful, just sooo awful.  Espeically considering all the reading into it so many fans did, when even the actual creator said "There is basically no deep meaning or symbolism, i just added stuff cause i thought it looked cool and wanted to convey sadness."

Nothing I hate more is when people talk about how deep something is when the creator says "It's not deep really, i just made stuff as i went along and wanted to make it weird."

The included book that comes with 1.11 sums it up the best. Its a story of a boy that has to face the samething over and over again while being tormented by the outside influences of his life. The Rebuild deepens the understanding of the outside influences greatly.

I'll agree with this. It was just weird for the sake of weird, and picked up to be much more than it was

but then again i have very poor taste in anime (Queen's Blade ftw), so my opinion counts for little as to the artistic merits of any works in the medium

Yeah, I stopped during the first episode of Queen's blade, when one of the characters got their clothes cut off and their boobs were showing.

Which I think was like, 30 seconds into the first episode.

Oh I agree, it just makes me laugh when ever people talk about stuff like "She we're a cross because of this and this and it shows this"

when he said "She wears a cross because I thought the crusifix looked cool!"

and people are talking about the greater philosophical importance between the monsters beign angels, and adam and lilith and all the bible termonology.

When there was nothing behind it, excpet he just felt like using that as a template.

They went way deeper into why whats her face wears the cross actually. Not that much deeper mind you, but its explained. Same starting to introduce the reason Seele is following the dead sea scrolls and wanting the destruction of the world. Of course 3.33 will get into that in more detail.

And the creator has stated that it was the producers that were rushing him, since he split his studio off and is independant he can focus on how his original vision of how Evangelion was supposed to be. Which so far, it's epic.
