Forums - Sony - 2nd PS3 or Blu-ray player?

well if you can afford it and like gaming on the PS3 then get another one,so you always have some back up

otherwise just get a normal blu-ray very affordable now aren't they

still if you are going to get a new HD tv then you may aswell see if you sniff out some combo deals somewhere

Grab that second PS3!  Then you can play two player online with somebody in your own house.  It's actually a lot of fun!

thats what ive been doing with my bro and killzone 3.

he preordered killzone 3 on amazon got a $20 credit then bought the killzone 3 ps3 bc he will be moving out sone and it was $300. so now we have 2 ps3's and 2 killzone 3's. its awesome

upgrade of the firmware is a must for BD. the ps3 way is the easy way my friend. not saying this just because..but because you need the updates.

yay post number 1234

My stand alone Blu-ray updates itself so I don't get the update thing as a plus.  Some Blu-rays have the updates built in cause I gave it to a buddy when I got a PS3 and he doesn't have it connected to an ethernet cord but the blu-rays update the player it if needed.

As much as i'd like another PS3 sold, if you honestly feel your family doesnt need the extra features and only want to use it to watch movies then might as well get the stand alone blu-ray player (that has updating feature) as money is also an issue.

It doesn't sound like you actually need the 2nd PS3... get a standalone bluray player.

On a videogame site I should have known the majorirty of recs would be PS3. I am quite certain a 2nd PS3 would get pretty much equal time for gaming and movie watching. However that likelihood by itself will be a negative selling point from the PoV of the lone female voice in the house.

I certainly take on board the point about not bothering until we get a 2nd HDTV. And of course no way I'm buying a new PS3 at least until the next price cut. Buying used is certainly an option, I imagine after price cut a 120Gig used slim will be pretty cheap. I am hoping for a nice dividend cheque from some Aussie shares I have, at the end of the year and with a bit of luck there will be a Bravia/PS3 deal at a retailer somewhere.

A 2nd PS3 would be an indulgence, even after a price cut or getting one used. I'll have to ponder on this some more. But good points from you all. Thanks.

I'm just wondering where Squill is telling me to get a decent gaming PC first. Maybe he's given up on me as a lost cause on that score.

Get a 2nd hand PS3 for the same price as a Blu-Ray player. Definitely the smarter decision to make. You get some extra controllers then as well :D
