Forums - PC - 12 Ways Consoles Are Hurting PC Gaming

@zarx  thats true

^^^ i think your being too pessimistic. it hasnt come down to that yet. If that were true then we'd only have Wii's and simpler smart phone games to play. as long as their is a market for deeper games we will always get them.  I would like to know how consoles are simplyfing games??? because IMHO the libray for PCs and consoles are not that different. RTSs and MMOs are the only genres i see that thrive on PC but not on consoles. I guess those two could count as "deep" games, but they never thrived on consoles to begin with

I'd give you a suggestion.  Play Team Fortress 2 on the PC, then play it on the 360 or PS3.

Notice the vast difference, and that since then companies are less likely to make the difference.

There isn't a FPS game on consoles that isn't dumbed down in comparison to PC.

You can also play SNES emulators on PS3. Are you including emulators now? Your point?

Not out of the box. And why not include emulators?

Well, you do need to put a flash drive in PS3's USB slot... and emulators are not really part of the platform itself, its just a hack.

I'm just making the point that everything is accessible (in terms of number of games) on PC.

Get a PC and everything is downloadable. On PS3 you have to get the hack and use it in ways that weren't intended and potentially can ruin your warranty.

Yes, everything is accessible on PC...with hacks.

And you just need to downgrade PS3 belov 3.41 and than just stick PS3 jaikbreak flash drive in USB port and thats it -  thats hardly any hacking

Er, you have it backwords... possibly intentionally?

You don't have to hack anything to get things on the PC.

While you know, what you described very much is hacking the PS3.

So you're telling me emulators come with the PC together once you buy one?

Er... downloading isn't hacking?

You don't need to bypass any security features to use an emulator on PC.

Is putting a flash drive in USB slot hacking?

If it bypasses security devices?  Yes.

You dont need to bypass any security devices as long as your PS3 is 3.40 or lower...

Oh...you can also run emulators on PS3 without jailbreak and any hack whatsoever, given that you still have Other OS

Actually, that's waht the flash drive does.  It bypasses the security devices.

Whether you develop the hack or just use it is irrelevent, it's still hacking.

Though downgrading your firmware is considered hacking by sony at the very least.

You could/can use emnlators on PS3 without any hacking so yes...it is irrelevant

Er, no it's not.  It's totally relevent... because like you said... "could".

You can't anymore, not without bypassing security measures by downgrading your OS.

Actually, if you havent upgraded to 3.41 you can use it perfectly legally without any bypassing

Right and?

I mean, I think in your desperate attempt to be right, you've forgotten what you were argueing.

Consoles aren't inferior to PCs, because if you own one specific console (A PS3) before a certain time, (Before the Slims, when most PS3's were sold) and haven' t kept up with firmware updates (Again probably less then half the phat users to say the least) you can run emulators.

This was supposed to prove your point how?

Also, your overlooking the fact now, that your PS3 can't play PS3 games.

It can play SOME PS3 games, but not any of the recent ones since every PS3 disc after that firmware update, comes WITH that firmware update or a later one.  So no.  Even that very very small subsection of consoles is inferior to PCs.

Actually my point was from the beginning that if you wanna mix brands, than you can play emulators on PS3, because vlad asked where can I play SNES games on PS3, and i said you can play SNES games on PS3 the same way you can play Windows games on MAC, and than other people started mentioning emulators. Dont cherry pick the quotes from the discussion.

Except... you can't.  Except on VERY rare PS3's.

At the expense of being able to play modern PS3 games.

So you can't mix brands on the PS3 well not without giving up a LOT of PS3 games.
